Basically, Chino XL has a very distinctive style of rapping.

A play on the phrase “love your enemy.” The original phrase (as far as we know) was a bible quote, Matthew 5:44.

“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.” (King James Bible.)

The phrase “love your enemy” was also – and more importantly in context of this verse – preached by Martin Luther King Jr. during the civil rights movement. (See King’s sermon on the topic here. This connects to the “I have a dream” beginning of Sticky’s verse.

Milton Waddams, another character in the film “Office Space”, is mistreated by Bill Lumbergh, up to the point that Milton’s stapler is taken from him for the sole reason that Bill has the power to take it. Milton later has his work place relocated to the basement.

In the movie “Office Space”, in which this song was created for, Bill Lumbergh, the overall antagonist and vice presdident of fictional company “Initech”, would take advantage of his position and suppress workers such as Peter Gibbons and Michael Bolton by keeping them busy with his own work and keeping them in dead end cubicle positions. He mostly does this because he can, and because he doesn’t like them.

This line isn’t true, but whether or not it’s a reasonable accusation is debatable.

Company Flow is often credited with being the main innovators of “abstract” Hip Hop, as their lyrics were often less than straight forward or conventional. Their flow was distinguished as well, as they often rapped off beat (much like RZA or Chino XL, for example). To Sole, these techniques and styles are nothing more than lack of talent and intellect, and are designed to fool people into thinking they are creative and talented as opposed to actually being used for substantial artistry. In layman’s terms, the emperor has no clothes.

Indellible MC’s was a super group of underground rappers, including EL-P and Bigg Jus of Company Flow, Breezly Brewin and Buddy Slim of Juggaknots, and, to the best of my knowledge, the solo artist known as J-Treds. They never had a full length album, and according to Sole, never will because EL-P is scared of being “outshined” by his colleagues.

Just a bit of clever wordplay. “Fat Beats” is the name of the record shop that Sole believed would not sell his album due to EL-P’s pull within the underground Rap industry, and to say a beat is “phat” (the “ph” being key to the individual meaning) would mean that it is enjoyable and well made. So although it may sound like Sole is against pleasent, well crafted music, he is actually saying that he would rather not be sold in that particular store.
