Joe Jackson was the driving force behind the Jackson’s success. Elvis is implying Michael’s success was due to his father’s abuse (The alchemist’s dream is to turn various metals/elements into gold.)
Actually, “like alchemy” refers to the process that leads to turning lead into gold. As a matter of fact, such metal is black (just like Michael Jackson when he was a kid), so the statement could be interpreted as getting gold out of black (a race-based joke).
