“Rolling dice” refers to taking risks — the phrase originates from Julius Caesar’s famous phrase “alea iacta est” (“the die has been cast”) spoken as he crossed the Rubicon with his army. This began a long civil war with Pompey that was to end in his total victory, or else death.

This song jumps directly into the major motif of the album, nostalgia.

Frank reminisces about when he was younger, when things were simpler. He reinforces the carelessness of childhood with the painting of a strawberry on a swing!

This song, along with the original by Coldplay, bear similarities to the seminal Beatles song “Strawberry Fields Forever.” All three of these songs share a nostalgia of childhood memories, particularly those which took place in the outdoors.

Double entendre:

  • If he gets “caught” (gets her pregnant), 18 years raising a kid will be a “long vacation for two”

  • “Long vacation” is slang for a prison sentence (a fitting sentence for a “lovecrime”) – an unplanned child can trap unexpecting parents in debt

His Ford Mustang.

Note that the 1982-1995 Mustang “5.0”, named after the supposed size of its V-8 engine, was technically not a “5.0” at all but rather a 4.9 liter, 302 cubic inch engine. As a result, the car has been the source of much criticism and laughter over the years, much to the chagrin of Mustang owners. The deliberate mention of the Mustang 5.0 here mirrors and furthers the theme of fraudulence.

Anointment is a very potent act in Judeo-Christian tradition, being used in consecrating a new high priest (Exodus 29:29), the tabernacle (Exodus 30:26), and the sick (Isaiah 1:6).

Additionally, it was analogous to the crowning of Hebrew kings (cf 1 Kings 19:16). In this context Jesus became known as Christ – the Anointed One (cf Acts 18:28)

Tyler has said many times that they don’t like to sample and choose to create everything from scratch

Bitch can do anything except make beats

It’s worth noting, however, that every song on the mixtape this song is on, Radical, is a cover of someone else’s production, such as Tyler using the instrumental to “Skrung Owt” By Fam-Lay for “Splatter”, Earl using Rich Boy’s “Drop (Freestyle)” beat for “Drop”, and the duo using the instrumental to “Lemonade” by Gucci Mane for “Orange Juice”

Quas is a savvy thief – he won’t steal Phillies (cigars) with a bar-code on them, which will allow him to get caught

However, when he “really hits star mode” he won’t have to resort to this anymore.

This may also be alluding to the fact Madlib “steals” samples that are so obscure they’re untraceable, so he won’t get caught.
