Yama is also the god of justice or law and associated with “Dharma”, a cosmic law underlying right behaviour and social order. This correlates with the line “Wore the blackest suit to pull up in the blackest chariot”. Lawyers will relate. And the cognate connection is the word “Magisterium” in the line between this one and the one on Yama. Although the Magisterium is technically a forum in the Catholic Church, the cognate suggests “Magistrate – a civil officer in charge of administering laws”. The name of the song itself suggests a legal connection where the word “Reports…” can be substituted with the word “Allegations”, essentially something to be tested legally or put on trial. So it would read, “Allegations of a Possible Kidnapping”. And as the god of justice and law, Yama would ordinarily be the judge of souls on the basis of their deeds in their lifetimes. A trial of sorts. Divine justice. Yama is also assisted by Kala (time – a big theme in Aesop’s lyrical pantheon and suggestive of “doing time” or “being jailed” or “lockdown/quarantine” or “FEMA camps”, etc.), Jwara (fever – symptom of disease), and Vyadhi (disease – hence the line after the Yama line… “Scatter bacteria”), inter alia. Therefore, the scissors cut the dog leashes, effecting releasing the virus, i.e. “Scatter disease”. Yama apparently was also thought to be the first person to die in world making him ruler of the deceased in the afterlife. The possible suggestion is that Yama is “patient zero”. But this may be a stretch. Nonetheless, Yama also holds a noose or pasha, which is a symbol that Aesop uses in his songs quite a lot and essentially associates himself with Yama using it. Yama, as the god of death, uses the pasha to extract a soul from a being’s body at the time of death. A very powerful symbol and tool extracted from the Shaiva Siddhanta school of Hinduism, where pasha is part of the trinity Pati-pashu-pasha, meaning “Master, animal, tether”, symbolizing God, man and world. Pasha represents worldly attachment as well as the power of a deity to capture and bind evil and ignorance. Nonetheless, the golden thread or theme in Aesop’s verse in this particular song is in fact disease, pathogens, germs, spores, pandemic, epidemic, sickness, etc.
