People tend to fear things they don’t understand. Fear is arguably the root of all negative emotions and actions; it causes hatred, jealousy, anger, and all the rest.

Also, this is a reference to Jesus' resurrection; the ‘darkness’ of death could not overpower the ‘light’ of Jesus.

Some translations of John 1:5 read, “…and the darkness did not overcome it,” illustrating that darkness cannot stifle or trump God’s power. Perhaps darkness represents evil; in that case, this verse expresses the power of God over evil.

The poor in spirit means those that are humble. Not necessarily monetarily, though if you have been poor it is easier to have the spirit. It is an important distinction here between material needs and spiritual needs.

Matthew 19:24 says:

And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.

It’s not impossible, but the rich have a hard time relying on God because they have all they need in this world…

Circumstances in the hood are crazy. Sometimes when it feels they have no other choice to make money for their family, dudes start hustling by any means. Drugs, robbing, mixtapes, bootleg movies, by any means.

He tell his homies in the hood stay up they’ll make it out one day

This line is a double entendre; “sun” can be heard as “son”. Here, “the son” is 2Pac referring to himself; he had to hustle on the streets till he “came up”, or became successful. After Pac elevated his position, everyone around him was also able to come up or raise their position as well.
