A flip of the saying “he is a product of his environment” meaning that people are influenced heavily by the world they live in

Vast claims that his influence as a rapper is so great that he’s spawned dozens of desperate imitators. They can copy his style, but they’ll never match his talent.

The Cold Vein proved highly influential on underground rap in New York. Artists like Das Racist and Action Bronson aren’t Vast Aire knock-offs, but they do show clear influences. Heems of Das Racist has particularly spoken of the influence of the Def Jux sound on his music.

Of course, if you exhale without inhaling after, you’ll eventually die

“Don’t hold your breath” is an expression meaning “don’t wait around for X to happen”. Vast might mean here that if he made arguments but took no action, he’d be dead inside

To “shoot the five” is to fistfight, or prepare to fistfight.

“Bite the bullet” means to bear with necessary pain, physical or otherwise.

Combining these two phrases, Vast says that he gets in fights and he is able to deal with his injuries. If he is feeling good/having a good day then he will “bite the bullet” or take your insult and spare your life

He uses wordplay (“shoot” and “bullets”) which makes it seems as though he is referring to guns instead of fighting.

Weasels are perceived as dishonest animals, so are used as a metaphor for snitches or other dishonorable people. Using bear traps to catch little weasels is excessive, but that’s the sort of brutality Vast uses against his enemies.

I’m straight edge too, so no drugs on this trip

Hip-hop magazine The Source uses “mics” as a rating system for albums, with five mics being the highest possible rating

The number 108 has been cited to contain some sort of religious or non-secular significance. This is also a likely reference to the 1990s JRPG series Suikoden and the 108 Stars of Destiny, a major plot device in the lore of the series.

Pigeons are common and generally thought to be ugly, dirty and disease ridden. This is perhaps how Vast sees the citizens of his neighborhood and city

“Dropping shit”, along with its literal meaning, also means to say insightful things, similar to “dropping knowledge”. If poor people from Vast’s hood never get a chance to “fly,” or self-actualize, they won’t do anything special.
