C'est la phrase clé de ce poème, elle sera en tout répétée 4 fois. Ici, après 8 vers, elle fait la transition entre le passage descriptif qui plante le décor, et l'accumulation d'actions qui va suivre.

Lisez bien l'explication de chacune des versions de cette “phrase-clé”, car c'est en fait la manière dont elle est répétée qui donne le plus de profondeur au texte.

C'est cette rythmique répétitive qui va filer le thème du texte : “le temps de vivre”, un thème ancré de la notion temporelle : le temps qui passe, le temps qu'on prend ou ne prend pas, le temps que l'on voudrait avoir, le temps.

Double-allégorie, de la lumière, puis de l'ombre ; l'une faisant ici danser l'autre comme deux être libres, tellement libres qu'on en oublie déjà la captivité passée du prisonnier, maintenant évadé.

La danse est ici le trait d'union entre ces deux notions conventionnellement opposées que sont la lumière et l'ombre. Une belle leçon.

Cette dernière phrase est très hésitante, sans assurance, preuve en est le flagrant decrescendo, et un ton hésitant – avec un bégaiement “de… de, de soi” – pour montrer que le personnage vient de se rendre compte du malaise et de la confusion que sa longue tirade a semé chez les autres protagonistes, lesquels se sont tus jusqu'ici par politesse.

La construction mécanique en question est révélée en toute fin du film : le sans-efforceur, version beta de l'ascenseur. Le nom du personnage Otis, vous l'aurez deviné, est une référence à la célèbre compagnie américaine d'ascenseurs

Oui parce que, c’est un nom qu’on a trouvé parce qu’on s’est aperçu que c’est une machine qui permettait de monter et de descendre les gens, et tout ça sans efforts.

Peut-être qu'Otis formule là une réponse alternative à cette question. En effet, il est suggéré ici qu'il ne faut peut-être pas se demander à qui du hasard ou du destin nous avons à faire ; mais plutôt si c'est le hasard qui fabrique le destin, ou bien l'inverse…
