Another reference to King as well as a double entendre… I’m a “king” (like Martin’s last name) and with this art I’m “marching” (attempting to fight the “good fight” like MLK) like MLK did down in Selma.

MLK died when he was 39… I try to live my life as if I’m going to die at 39.. What will people be able to say about my life and my legacy after 39 years on this side of life? Which is why I named the record “1980-2019”. Many conservatives try and use MLK’s legacy to back up their political agenda when in fact MLK was more radical in his thought process!

A metaphor here on the way I choose to move within the culture. Sharks are more feared and the carnage they cause is more popular to document. But when I enter the scene I want to have a presence so large that I’m the alpha male regardless of who is in the room with me. Try to tear my name down, hate on what I’m trying to accomplish, etc.. It doesn’t matter! My purpose is greater than whatever harm you can cause me. A shark might take a bite out of the whale but the whale is so big he might not even notice.

I started lecturing at local colleges this year about hip hop and it’s place in social justice as well as it pertains to verbal/linguistic intelligence. I never graduated college yet I’ve been blessed enough to teach and speak in settings where a college degree is normally required. Hip hop did that!! Also, at times I feel so much pressure here in KY.. Keeping that essence of true hip hop alive while also trying to move the culture forward. Many of my colleagues are entrenched in one or the other but not connecting both. The culture’s history & it’s progress. I also try to open up new doors for hip hop artists in Kentucky. Expand it’s reach.

I took about 11 months off from releasing any new material. The opening lines are basically saying “Yeah mutha f*ckas… I’m back!!!” lol I got that fix you need, lyrically.. I’m hustling, but with the bars.

I see a lot of dudes trying to find short cuts in this hiphop thing.. Whether paying for features and producers that are buzzing and attempting to ride their wave, or going behind and peeping all the outlets that support you and reaching out to them on the back end.. But at the end of the day tracing somebody elses grind or career won’t get you to where you need to go. Still gotta have rhymes, substances, and good music. To be GREAT you gotta pay dues in this game. Theirs no way around that.

As confident as I am I realize that the only person that can bring me to my knees is my queen… But even in losing arguments with her, I’m still king despite the perceived weakness you see in me by losing to my woman… Kind of like Ali who eventhough is riddle my Parkison’s Disease, is still considered the greatest to ever do it. Perception isn’t reality..
