Dependence on selling drugs has shaken his faith in God, and his focus became making money. A popular analogy in rap is “married to the money, but in order for him to be fully committed to said money, he had to divorce or separate himself from religion.” It’s the only way to stay faithful.
This also plays off of the “medieval” reference above – most of the big cathedrals were built during the High Middle Ages.
Also – another add to this is King Henry Vlll was the first king to try to get a divorce through the church (cathedral) who was also what most people consider cruel and “evil” as Lil Wayne right after states “forced into evil” as in forced into their church/king ruling.
I think when hes talking about divorcing the cathedral, he is also referencing King Henry Vlll separating (divorcing) the church. It fits the time frame of braveheart saying the times are medieval and standing in the corner selling porcelain like a merchant in those times. He later says the “bottles the battles” also referencing war at the time.
