“Backpacker” is a term used in Hip Hop to refer to those fans who are “purists.” These fans tend to be the moral crusaders of hip hop. They believe DJing, Graffiti, breakdancing, and MCing are the only elements in hip hop and they tend to disapporve of commercial hip hop or even hip hop that doesn’t have some sort of consciousness.

As J. Cole mentions in his song Villuminati, “sometimes I brag like Hov.” Not only is bragging a part of J. Coles music, it’s a part of hip hop in general even though backpackers tend to think otherwise.
