A “monarch” is a person who reigns over a kingdom—Kendrick’s crowns himself as the king of rap.

The Beatles are one of the most influential and best-selling English rock band of all time. Paul McCartney was the band’s bass guitarist and singer. He’s also one of two remaining members alive today.

On the other hand, Bob Marley was a Jamaican singer, known as one of the pioneers of reggae—a music genre that originated in Jamaica. His music often focused on social and political changes and Rastafarianism beliefs. He’s also one of the best selling artists of all time and is considered a Jamaican national hero. He died in 1981 from skin cancer.

Both acts are also listed on Rolling Stone’s 100 Greatest Artists of All Time at #1 and #11 respectively—Kendrick feels he has a big enough legacy to leave the same impact The Beatles and Marley have had on popular culture.

What if Judgement to the Monarchy is about the British Crown but in contrast to Sir Paul McCartney who is a Knight. Perhaps it’s both?

Looks like Kendrick is paying homage to Kanye West line:

“And what’s a black Beatle anyway, a fucking roach?”

When Kendrick says:

“You called me a black Beatle, I’m either that or a Marley”

He is probably asking “Why black artists need to be compared to white artists to have some kind of aproval?”, and then he cites Bob Marley, maybe the first non black american artist to have some cult following around the globe, doing that Kendrick is also being humble to his heritage.

Hes referring to “EvBravado” who designs most of the clothes that Joey Badass is seen wearing, and designs all of his merch. His designer has came up in the fashion scene while moving “silently”

Designer also refers to Gucci, with the brands main logo being two large G’s. It’s a double entendre that also states that his designer belts are real and not fake.

I actually think this is a slight shot at both Wayne and Desiigner. “The real don’t get along with the fake.” The whole song is aggressive and confrontational talking about “fake” rappers and it’s unlikely it’s a coincidence that he uses the word designer.

By the way the G isn’t silent in lasagna but it is in designer. Without the G, it would be pronounced “lasana” so basically Joey improved Wayne’s punchline and gave it his own spin.

Joey could also be referring to his designer clothes. Saying that he wears designer but he isn’t flashy with it and he keeps it lowkey.

The legendary interview with Kemba. Happy I got to do this with him, it was fun. Fun fact, this is my first ever interview, so it was especially neat experiencing this. We did this through emails, the original version had a lot fewer questions, but Kemba thought it seemed a little light and suggested I can throw in some follow-ups; so, I tried making it a bit more organic like a proper sit down as a result. We went back and forth like that for a bit and now it became to what it is now.
