9. Ab-Soul "The End Is Near" Songs of the Year (2013) by Rap Genius Editors (Ft. Baaarden, Barrk, Big Teach, Brian Gonser, Brock, ChiddyShadyFiasco, Darwin, DC26, Eon2323, Kasek, LieutenantShinySides, Lotus Eater Evans, Lucidity Flow, MacadelicKid, Nappy, Nietzsche (user), Notero, Quikstik, Randyy, SavvyRJA, Screv6, SkyArt, Spinelli, streetlights, Thom, TyrantX, Xsyl & Yawk-Yawk) 176

Simple beat, nothing too crazy about it, but just focus on the verses… it’s crazy. Ab-Soul has crazy amounts of wordplay and it all flows together well. Even Mac held his own I thought (though not up to Soulo’s level).

5. Pro Era - "Sorry Bonita" Songs of the Year (2013) by Rap Genius Editors (Ft. Baaarden, Barrk, Big Teach, Brian Gonser, Brock, ChiddyShadyFiasco, Darwin, DC26, Eon2323, Kasek, LieutenantShinySides, Lotus Eater Evans, Lucidity Flow, MacadelicKid, Nappy, Nietzsche (user), Notero, Quikstik, Randyy, SavvyRJA, Screv6, SkyArt, Spinelli, streetlights, Thom, TyrantX, Xsyl & Yawk-Yawk) 176

Bonita Applebum has got it goin' on!

I really enjoyed this Pro Era posse cut and the nostalgic beat to go along with it. Moreover, everyone’s showing up with some dope verses which make for a great song and a spot on my list.

3. Haim - "If I Could Change Your Mind" Songs of the Year (2013) by Rap Genius Editors (Ft. Baaarden, Barrk, Big Teach, Brian Gonser, Brock, ChiddyShadyFiasco, Darwin, DC26, Eon2323, Kasek, LieutenantShinySides, Lotus Eater Evans, Lucidity Flow, MacadelicKid, Nappy, Nietzsche (user), Notero, Quikstik, Randyy, SavvyRJA, Screv6, SkyArt, Spinelli, streetlights, Thom, TyrantX, Xsyl & Yawk-Yawk) 176

I understand that this isn’t a hip-hop song, but I don’t care, this song is toooo nice. Unbelievably catchy, and Danielle’s voice goes so smoothly with the instrumentation. The hook has some incredible harmonizing that will leave you in amazement.

2. A$AP Rocky - "Fashion Killa" Songs of the Year (2013) by Rap Genius Editors (Ft. Baaarden, Barrk, Big Teach, Brian Gonser, Brock, ChiddyShadyFiasco, Darwin, DC26, Eon2323, Kasek, LieutenantShinySides, Lotus Eater Evans, Lucidity Flow, MacadelicKid, Nappy, Nietzsche (user), Notero, Quikstik, Randyy, SavvyRJA, Screv6, SkyArt, Spinelli, streetlights, Thom, TyrantX, Xsyl & Yawk-Yawk) 176

This also was a huge contender for the #1 spot. Now a lot of people hate on this song; I’ve straight up heard people say, “this should have been left out on the album” or “this song is booty and not the good kind”, but forget that… at least for me, one of the catchiest songs of the year. Like the beat just takes me back and puts me in a place of happy feels (shouts to Druke). And the song itself is pretty simple which I like for some reason.

1. Childish Gambino - "3005" Songs of the Year (2013) by Rap Genius Editors (Ft. Baaarden, Barrk, Big Teach, Brian Gonser, Brock, ChiddyShadyFiasco, Darwin, DC26, Eon2323, Kasek, LieutenantShinySides, Lotus Eater Evans, Lucidity Flow, MacadelicKid, Nappy, Nietzsche (user), Notero, Quikstik, Randyy, SavvyRJA, Screv6, SkyArt, Spinelli, streetlights, Thom, TyrantX, Xsyl & Yawk-Yawk) 176

Being the huge fan of Gambino that I am, it makes sense that a Gambino song would come number 1. I’ll actually a bit surprised that it’s “3005”. But then again, this song is just too catchy and good for it not to be. I remember when I first heard this song, I already knew the whole album was going to be fire (lo and behold, I was correct). The video is also pretty dope too.

Eon2323 Songs of the Year (2013) by Rap Genius Editors (Ft. Baaarden, Barrk, Big Teach, Brian Gonser, Brock, ChiddyShadyFiasco, Darwin, DC26, Eon2323, Kasek, LieutenantShinySides, Lotus Eater Evans, Lucidity Flow, MacadelicKid, Nappy, Nietzsche (user), Notero, Quikstik, Randyy, SavvyRJA, Screv6, SkyArt, Spinelli, streetlights, Thom, TyrantX, Xsyl & Yawk-Yawk) 176

Doing this list was actually a bit harder than I thought it would be not just because it’s hard to narrow down all of the songs I loved this year but also the fact that a lot of the songs I also loved this year came out during the latter part of 2012 or even before that.

TheStruggle

Nonetheless, I was able to create a list of my ten favorites along with many honorable mentions.

(Get ready, y'all. The Eons are taking over just in case you forgot)

Honorable Mentions Songs of the Year (2013) by Rap Genius Editors (Ft. Baaarden, Barrk, Big Teach, Brian Gonser, Brock, ChiddyShadyFiasco, Darwin, DC26, Eon2323, Kasek, LieutenantShinySides, Lotus Eater Evans, Lucidity Flow, MacadelicKid, Nappy, Nietzsche (user), Notero, Quikstik, Randyy, SavvyRJA, Screv6, SkyArt, Spinelli, streetlights, Thom, TyrantX, Xsyl & Yawk-Yawk) 176

Only a top ten? It was tough. Just know that the first several songs on this Honorable Mentions list could have easily been put up on my top ten.

Don't turn around
You'll see
You can make it
Never forget
Sacred by Tokio Hotel

Similar to sentiment expressed in Ready, Set, Go!, “turning around” will only make the girl fixate on the past which is filled with pain, mistakes, and things never said.

And closer to the edge
The scars will stay forever
On The Edge by Tokio Hotel

Referring to the emotional scars that have inflicted a lot of pain to this girl and quite possibly the real ones she may have as a result of cutting or abuse.

The sky is casting over
Her last wish stays unsaid
On The Edge by Tokio Hotel

Similar to the girl from their previous song Don’t Jump, she is also about to commit suicide by jumping from the top of a building. The only difference here is that she succeeds in doing so, thus whatever her last wish was will forever remain unsaid.
