Donald goes on and on about how things are good, most likely because he is with this girl and is enjoying her company.

Similarly to what he says in the hook of his song “Hold You Down”, he wants to “hold her down” and actually keep her around. This would make sense because as he’s said so much before in his previous project because the internet, he doesn’t want to be alone.

This part of the song is song in a similar way to the hook on Lloyd’s song, “You”. This wouldn’t be the first time Gambino has crafted his songs around Lloyd as Telegraph Ave heavily relies on Lloyd’s song, Oakland.

Another thing for people to hate on Gambino for! People usually hate on Donald for various reasons whether it be because of his voice, alleged “softness”, or the like but now they’re upset they can’t obtain the love ‘Bino has for and from this girl.

Although his friends keep telling him to take the relationship slow, he insists on jumping into the relationship, despite the risk of the relationship not working out; i.e. he wants her love immediately.

That’s something love can do; it can make you think and act irrationally sometimes, but Gambino has always been known to be real and follow his heart, and all he knows is that he wants is her.

This is also a bit reminiscent of a line from Ab-Soul in his song “Double Standards”:

Love making, and making out
His fellas' in his ear, “You acting like a queer
You going on dates, we tryna get this cake!”

Considering the fact that Childish and his Royalty crew are always on the road (especially for his Deep Web Tour that recently ended) and he’s always wearing the same thing, one would think that he is actually a homeless person.

Allusion to his line in the Rosenberg Freestlye:

And the hair so homeless, record labels want us

A butcher kills pigs and bacon comes from pig meat, and Bino is butchering these other rappers and bringing home the bacon (could be seen as the remains, or a phrase for bringing home the money)

And when you cook bacon, the grease may splash out at you & could burn you. Bino’s raps are so hot, he burned himself.

After a possible breakup with a girl, Donald is going to get over his emotions by indulging in alcohol and getting drunk, which takes him to a different reality. However, he believes he’ll never get over her so he’s going to never stop drinking.

Also, the girl’s love is his drug. Now that it’s “over”, he acknowledges how he’ll always keep coming back for more. Furthermore, he’s foreshadowing a relapse into her addicting love.

This could also be referring to him being constantly high and never coming down from that high (and being sober). That could be a more likely idea because as Glover has said himself, he’s stopped drinking for the most part.

It’s possible that the beginning line of “And now that it’s over” is referring to him waking up at the end of the STN MTN mixtape, and is continuing on from that onto the Kauai EP.

Gambino is asking this girl for the most precious thing we have as humans: time. Spending some time with Gambino however could allow any girl to become just a bit wiser.

This could also play into the bigger idea of getting high. Seeing as how high Gambino is from the hook, he could also open up this girl’s mind by getting her high.

Taking account when the track itself was dropped, this is definitely in reference to the shooting of Michael Brown and the unrest in Ferguson, MO.

Trinidad is taking the role of an ordinary man here and begging the police officer to just show him mercy and a bit of compassion (the very opposite many would argue Michael Brown’s shooter Darren Wilson showed towards Brown).

Trinidad also made this statement about the song and the issues it presents:

I feel like we are all fighting to stay alive. Not just from the Police but just from each other. In my opinion kids see more of US killing US than the police killing US. So I CHALLENGE YOU AMERICA! EVEN THE WORLD! to value each other…..US.
