Alori would always be the one to tell Soul to keep his composure and “remain G”, but she did it so frequently, it’s almost as if she was saying that to reassure herself.

Before she had passed, the couple didn’t have much to live on especially Ab-Soul who admittedly “could only take Alori to IHOP” when she wanted to go on a date.

Despite all of that, she continued to reassure Soulo as well as herself that everything was going to be okay

This tends to be a reoccurring idea throughout the TDE camp, and it’s also a line Ab-Soul has spit before in Kendrick Lamar’s “ADHD.” It also popped up again in Soul’s song “ILLuminate.”

Ab-Soul is always willing to share his knowledge to those who are willing to listen. It’s all a part of HiiiPower’s search for knowledge.

A possible reason this line tends to be quite prevalent throughout TDE songs is because it’s also a line from the late Alori Joh in her song “Let You Shine”.

Putting three fingers up is the known sign for the HiiiPower movement which is commonly referred to among the Black Hippy Crew. The three fingers respectively represent heart, honor, and respect (see Kendrick Lamar’s song “HiiiPower”).

Ab-Soul is known as the inspiration for the HiiiPower movement and even helped Kendrick write the song HiiiPower.

Shouts to Drake!

Ab-Soul gives a couple references to Drake in these lines in the following ways:

“Don’t know no new niggas” is a reference to the DJ Khaled song No New Friends (Drake sang the hook).

Also the way Ab-Soul says “business is business” with that Versace-like flow is reminiscent to a specific part in Drake’s verse in Versace

Fuck all your feelin’s cause business is business, its strictly financial

I just wanted it to be a little time capsule of the last couple of years since my absence. The vibe of music and life right now like the last couple of years.

A picture is painted here to give an idea to what “these days” refers to and also what it entails. As it’s stated here, these are the things that Ab-Soul is going through. With all of the stress and strife in his life (including the passing of Alori Joh), he’s taken to resting, smoking, drinking, etc. in order to cope with what’s been going on.

Being in his position as a rapper signed to TDE however, he’s seen it all. Despite the fact that he’s been going through some bad days, he’s also seen some of his best as well. It’s all of it that adds to what he’s gone through these days.

Especially as of late with the passing of his girl-friend and TDE associate Alori Joh, he’s been struggling with depression so in order to help alleviate the pain he’s undergoing, he’s popping “downers” or drugs that makes the body relax like depressants

If you notice, the flow Ab-Soul uses for the rest of the verse is very similar to that prevalent in the song “Versace”. That hoppy-like flow was made famous by the group Migos.

They continue to use that flow in many of their songs, and it has been both praised and criticized which is why Soulo assures us this is the only time he’s used that flow, unlike other rappers who seem to use it a lot these days.

Interestingly enough however, this isn’t the only time he’s used it! You can hear him use the flow during the third verse on his song Soulo Ho3, the intro song to his album Control System .

Note: That song came out before Migos had attained the popularity they have now. Maybe Soulo was actually the first to use it!

Either way, we’d like to think he did it justice.

The flow as well as the beginning phrase “Yeah you heard it right” is reminiscent to a specific part of the hook on ScHoolboy Q’s 2012 song Hands on the Wheel. Seems like Q has developed a Rick Ross-like attitude.

A reference to the Kendrick Lamar song Ignorance is Bliss. The term is used for when someone is more happy if they do not know something. Even though Q is ignorant with his money, it can’t take away from it’s stress relief.
