Picking up a penny on the ground is usually a sign of good luck but every time he sees one on the ground, he’s unsure of whether or not he should pick it up. Although she can’t physically see the door open with her eyes closed, what she means is that by closing her eyes (not paying attention to the bad relationship and shutting off from that), she can see new doors (new relationships) open up for her.
