TyrantX’s explanation for having this song on his top ten closely reflect my views of this song. So gooood. And it’s unbelievably catchy.

But dat Jhene singing tho

This year has been an amazing year for her too. She’s slowly becoming one of my favorite singers and she does so well in this song.

Since most people listen to the radio nowadays (probably not as much as before but still a good amount), there’s a good chance he could actually get to her by putting out an SOS which is a distress signal in Morse code.

More so used as a metaphor here, it’s obvious the relationship is kind of non-existent at this point which causes him to burn or die out without having this girl. The only way to rescue him is to get back together with him.

The mood and feeling (as well as the lyrics directly) of this song is different to that of the former portion of the album which talk more about the positive parts of the relationship.

Remember when you were a kid and if you were sick, you were forced to take that nasty bitter pill to make you “feel better”? Bill compares the relationship with this girl that he’s in to that feeling of taking a bitter pill against his will.

As opposed to the sentiment expressed in their song Love Is Dead, here their love will continue on despite the fact that one of them is dying whereas in the aforementioned song, they’re love is dead which causes them to die.

In this case, since he is dying (for whatever reason), that doesn’t necessarily mean that their love is dead either.

This one was actually a tough one for me because I knew I needed to have a Danny Brown song in my top ten (Old is still one of my favorites from this year) but I wasn’t sure of which song. I decided to give it to the intro track Side A (Old) because gives a bigger and more broad overview of that half of the album as well as what he’s going through now. And that beat is so gritty and raw.

Need I say it? Groovy Q can make a hit, plain and simple. Beat goes hard and Kendrick spits one of my favorite verses he’s spit this year.

Even though it’s not on my top ten, this could also be switched for Schoolboy’s other song “Man of the Year”. That one is a straight banger too, so I’d think of it as 7b with “Collard Greens” being 7a.

Simple beat, nothing too crazy about it, but just focus on the verses… it’s crazy. Ab-Soul has crazy amounts of wordplay and it all flows together well. Even Mac held his own I thought (though not up to Soulo’s level).
