She was feeling bad as she was doing it, but at the same time, she knew it was the right thing for her to do. Well, what can you expect? You can’t hold Danielle down to one thing.
Suggesting that aliens are nasty creatures that are unable to love, maybe this girl can get to Bill’s more human side.
He’s lost sense of who he is. Saying there’s an “alien” inside him illustrates the idea that something he’s totally unfamiliar with is a part of him and he can’t figure out.
Like stated earlier, love is instinctive. You can’t learn how to love; it’s just a feeling you have similar to how animals know some of the skills they have through instinct.
It’s part of our human nature to mate with another human; we’re meant to connect. When a boy sees a girl he likes, he already knows he likes her. He doesn’t need anyone to tell him that.
But all there’s left is the connection. If they don’t have that connection, the boy can’t hope to connect with the girl. Thus leads to Bill asking how he can do so with this girl.
Similar to the actions that a dog owner would do to their dog, Bill wants his girl to do the same to him (all of which seem pretty reasonable).
Keeping the theme of the title alive here, Bill simply doesn’t want to be controlled by the love of his girl anymore. He wants to be a free “dog” allowed to do what he wants.
(it’s a German Shepherd…get it?)
Experiencing something together (especially if it’s pain) is a lot easier than going through it alone. They have said something similar to this in one of their songs.
Love (as well as the pain that could come with it) is powerful. Apparently, it’s also deeper than 1000 oceans.
