This is a beautiful opening to Andre 3000’s section. Andre 3000 starts his verse by making a statement that nothing is what it seems, that decision you were certain of when you were making them could have been wrong.
Andre 3000 then scale this idea up by saying that even life itself is not as it seems. Then in the next line Andre 3000 begins to give example of thing that appeared to be good but had there downsides.
In addition, Andre creates a quadruple entendre out of this bar. Andre presents, “Even if you gotta live”, so quickly (as we later find in the verse, isn’t his fault) it could possibly be interpreted as false optimism. Simply the opposite, “Even if, you gotta live”, could also be interpreted. Implying that life is not as it seems, in the form of illusion. These are both different perspectives which correlate to, “What it ain’t? What it is?”. As in saying, What’s real? What isn’t real?” Chains and Cars? or Love and Pride? Unfortunately, this answer is subjective to some.
