Speaking politics is never a good idea because people feel so passionately about their opinions regarding elected officials.

The Devil is known to be red in modern society however the devil is not invariably red in mediaeval imagery – in Chaucer, he’s green! – Meanwhile, red means blood, violence, and passion. It is also the colour of fire and the New Testament considers hell to be fiery. There’s the red dragon in Revelation 12:3 just to cement it further.

In this line FiO references back to the famous saying “when life gives you lemons…”

Here FiO speaks of drug transactions between pot dealers and people such as himself.

The word lettuce here is referring to ‘the devils lettuce’ which is slang for cannabis.

Chemist is slang for a street pharmacist or drug dealer

Not only does FiO use the chorus to introduce the theme of the song but he begins the song with a deeper meaning as well.

The color green is traditionally associated with money, finances, banking, ambition, greed, jealousy, and wall street.

The term “green-eyed monster” refers to a jealous person and the term “green with envy” stands for feelings of jealousy and envy.

It’s clear that FiO has a problem with not money itself but what it does to those who do nothing but search for it.

When many Americans are focused on making money they tend to ignore their social lives all together in which they then tend to lose their friends or ‘allies’ as well.
