The song opens up with a sample. A sample about a man who has not yet given up. This man has been working hard although you may have thought he was doing nothing of importance.

Its here in the chorus that both FiO and J.J. first set the foundation for the song. J.J. is consistently asking the listener questions. Although the listener may or may not be able to answer them, it forces the listener to both think and wonder.

Unlike J.J., FiO is not asking questions. He is trying to explain to the listener that “it” all goes round. Now even though FiO has not introduced us to what “it” means we gain an understanding in which “it” is constantly happening, all the time.

Its here in the last four bars of the verse that he revisits his feelings for Sadie. Time has past and we find that his relationship with Sadie has grown but he comes to realize the relationship doesn’t really mean much to him at all.

Although the relationship may not mean much to him we now find out that it does to Sadie. It matters so much that she begins to speak of marriage. FiO concludes the verse letting us know that just as the woman fell in love with the man and he fell in love with the woman, Sadie has fallen in love with him.

We also find out that just as the man did to the woman, and the woman did to him, he will have to break up with Sadie and crush her heart. Hence, “it” goes round and round.

The middle of this second verse tells us a little bit more about our mysterious main character. It tells us about how the world around him is changing rapidly yet he tends to remain the same.

We find out how he feels about life and how it makes him depressed that while he’s existing the people around him are living and succeeding in life to the point in which he thinks about giving up.

The second verse kicks off with our main character in pain because the girl he loved had just crushed him. Now just as the woman whom he went after (who had been crushed earlier in the story), a girl named Sadie has come after him.

Within the first line of the second verse its clear that Sadie is crazy over him, so even though he’s hurting, our main character decides to take a chance on Sadie just as the woman before took a chance on him.

Just as the stranger did to her, she has to break our main characters heart because just as she had fallen in love with the stranger, he has fallen in love with her even though it was understood that she wasn’t looking for a relationship hence this type of love situation goes round and round.

This is followed by the chorus where our story becomes even more clear.

At this point of the story we find that even though our main character has agreed to nothing more than a good time he has fallen in love with her but the feelings unfortunately are not the same.
