The first verse of the song dives a bit deeper into the story. It is at this point of the song where we realize that although the man who broke this woman’s heart was a stranger she is some sort of peer in our main characters life. He goes on to explain that now that she is single it’s his turn to ask her out and build a relationship which lyes deeper than friendship.

Although it seems as if the two are strangers, the woman accepts his offer to take her out on a date. To his amazement she openly admits that she had “Mr. Right” and is only looking for a good time and nothing more.

By the time the listener has gotten 4 bars into the song we gain a better understanding of what “it” is. Just as the chorus is the foundation of the song, the first four bars now become the framework.

It is now a bit more clear that FiO is about to tell a story. A story in which a woman falls in love with a man but the feelings are unfortunately not mutual. He goes on to explain that even though this man is not in love with this particular woman he feels terrible because he never intended on hurting her.

It’s here in the chorus that both FiO and J.J. first set the foundation for the song. J.J. is consistently asking the listener questions. Although the listener may or may not be able to answer them, it forces the listener to both think and wonder.

Unlike J.J., FiO is not asking questions. He is trying to explain to the listener that “it” all goes round. Now even though FiO has not introduced us to what “it” means we gain an understanding that in which “it” is constantly happening.

In verse 2 FiO becomes a bit more descriptive and explains how amazing this girl makes him feel. He explains how he is not only infatuated by her appearance but by who she is as a person as well.

Then he tells us a little bit about what they’re like when they are together at home. Apparently all of his friends treat her with the utmost respect just because she’s in love with him. And every time she visits him FiO loves to show off how amazing his girl is. He stops to think if its maybe because she’s from the same neighborhood because the girls he knows now are softies and don’t stand up for themselves.

He continues to explain how where other girls let things slide his girlfriend does not. She tells him straight out whats up even if vulgar words are needed to get the message across. FiO also tells the listener that he loves his girlfriend most because when he tries to act like someone he is not, his girl is the first to bring him back down to reality.

She always makes sure FiO has fun with the girls but not “too much fun” because she is the one at the end of the day who listens to him and helps him solve his problems. He clearly thanks her for that and wants to reward her with fancy gifts once he makes it (which he will)!

He continues the conversation as memories come back to him such as the times when he would steal her pens for attention and in return she stole his heart. With this puppy love in his eyes he never thought that they would part.

Then FiO remembers how this girl would write his name in binders, notebooks, and anything else she could get her hands on. He explains that even though they were both young they truly cared about each other and no one else came close to how amazing she was.

Now FiO fasts forwards to their first date and how he remembers every little detail about it including the Pizza they ate that night. He then moves onto their first kiss and how she laughed when he first missed being he was so nervous.

Now FiO brings us back to the present and can’t believe how much time has passed. He’s impressed with his relationship because he comes to realize that as they grew older, so did their love for one another.

In the third and final verse FiO is strictly aiming his anger at those who hated on him when he was first coming up. He invites the listener into his past and the things people once said and continues to inform us of how those who once hated, now appreciate the hard work and effort he has put into his career. He then adds that no one should ever tell him what to do because he is finally following his heart, knows what he’s doing, and that he is better than those who once made his life a living hell.

In the final part of the second verse FiO is talking to himself. He is telling both himself and the listener that he is who he is and you can either accept him for who he is or go fuck yourself. He then continues to explain his anger and frustration towards his tumor, eight surgeries, and epilepsy by denouncing the world itself and accepting defeat.

Here he realizes that he doesn’t like the person the mirror portrays and needs to change his ways. He continues to explain that hes pretending everything is okay and that he is the definition of cool when in reality he is breaking down inside.
