October 15th, 2012

This man was awesome: He merged Texas tough with Washington smooth. About 30 years ago, when he caught two paralegals in his law firm talking too loudly about firm business in the elevator he leaned over, grabbed each on the shoulder from behind and gruffly whispered: “Men who discuss their Bidness on elevators soon find they got no Bidness to talk about.” He let us go, walked off then flashed a mean look peppered with a cool smile. Those words and that sparky smile remain burned in me brain. Cool man.

A nigga in the booth feelin' fresher than some new Nikes
Dawg, and I cruise like cruise control
Fuck that! I can't do it, I might lose my soul
Even though it should help a nigga to his goal
Would defeat the whole purpose
Hiatus by Joe Budden 1

Joe Budden mocks the simple lyrics of popular artists, talking about cars and clothes. He quickly is disgusted with the style, and admits it would help him see sales, he would not dumb it down as that would defeat the purpose of why he makes music
