Jay Z has a net-worth of over $610 million. Owning the Roc Nation record label and artist management company, a sports management company, the TIDAL streaming service, the American rights to the Armand de Brignac champagne brand and other liquor investments, multiple clothing companies, and a movie and television production company means that Jay is doing things each day that other rappers could only dream of.

They may brag about high accomplishments and monetary gains in their songs, but it’s not exactly reality like it is for Hov.

Real life I’m like HOV, real life I’m life goals
In real life they’re like me? In real life I’m like, ‘No.’

My swag different, that bag different
My wife Beyoncé, I brag different

The pilots are the rappers who brought the rap game to a higher level, since a pilot elevates people by bringing them into the air. Also, continuing the Seinfeld comparison, i.e. the pilot episode of Seinfeld (No Elaine! Different theme music! Kramer is called Kessler! It’s worth a look!)

This “do-do-doo” refrain is inspired by Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side,” another urban tale of the drug addiction spiral that inspired this song.

Behind the catchy, upbeat “Semi-Charmed” melody that entranced many a tween when it was released in 1997 is a dark tale of a relationship’s descent into crystal meth addiction.

The song was released as the lead single from their debut album in February 1997.

Ca$his is continuing Em’s theme that rap used to be about telling real-life stories, but now it’s about beats kids can dance to. The “snare” and “clap” are the two drum machine sounds most used in the beat of a typical dance hook, as in the satirical hook of this very song.

Again, the “Snare/Clap” referring to the 808 drum machine samples. Though nowadays people either sequence it on a Computer or…

The brand new TR-8, a modern-day reboot of the 808.

Jay-Z boasts of passing the torch to a new generation of great rappers in “A Star is Born,” but Dre thinks that after 50 and Eminem (who Jay shouts out in “A Star is Born”), there are no new rappers worthy of the torch

It is noteworthy also that all of the involved artists have claimed retirement at some point. Jay has been threatening retirement since his first album, and actually did retire for two years in 2003. Em threatened to quit rap in 2005 and, despite mixed reception for his two consecutive comeback albums, “Relapse” and “Recovery” (2009-2010), continues to rap. Dre has announced his own retirement from rhyming and 50 famously threatened to retire in 2007 if he was outsold by Kanye West.

Several years later, we think Dre may have discovered the answer to his question “Then what?”

This is the part of the song where you’re listening with your Mom and just hoping she doesn’t figure out Beyoncé’s talking about his dick when she says “ego” but deep down you know your Mom’s not that dumb, she knows what’s up

Alternatively, the hook works the opposite way: it really is about admiring her man’s ego. Women respond well to confidence, and Jay’s ego is one of many things Beyoncé loves about him
