Bagging something could mean securing some drugs (most likely marijuana or coke or crack), or bagging a chick.

Could be a reference to Gianni Versace being shot on the porch of his Miami mansion (“fortress”) by crazed killer Andrew Cunanan in 1997. Or could be a general threat. But again, RICK ROSS WAS A CORRECTIONAL OFFICER so don’t be too scared in Miami

In a tenebrous description of the consequences of his cop-killing behavior, Ice Cube refers to the ordinary yellow tape used to interdict crime scenes to hint at the murder of police officers.

It’s these kind of lines that triggered the phenomenon of selective hearing on the media, where they ignored the message of the song and just highlighted the violent and explicit lyrics.

Playing on “grill” as in ‘face’ and grill as in ‘cooking device.’ “Ribs” continues the double meaning of the cooking imagery – Wayne is threatening to literally barbecue the ribs in your body, not some ribs you bought at the Winn-Dixie or some shit

Kanye West sang:

You can live through anything if Magic made it

in “Can’t Tell Me Nothing”

Wayne is admitting that he stole the line from Kanye, but thinks that’s totally fine and borrowing from other artists is how rap evolves and moves forward. In any case, Kanye frequently collaborates with Wayne, including producing two tracks on this album (“Comfortable” and “Let The Beat Build”).

The line refers to Magic Johnson’s amazing survival for nearly two decades as an HIV-positive man. Speaking of which, what is that dude’s secret? Acai berries?

Long after this song dropped, on 11 May 2015, Kanye West was given an honorary doctoral degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Slim Shady “killed” Marshall Mathers to become famous, and that’s what led to the identity crisis and multiple personalities. This line is later referenced in the song “Insane” off of his album Relapse.

The bastard won’t even eat nothing, he’s scared
He just hung himself in the bedroom, he’s dead!

Em actually did try to commit suicide after Infinite came out but before he invented Slim Shady. Saying he “hung his original self” is true to his real life.

The censored version of this lyrics is just as awesome:

Since age 12 I felt like a caged elf
Who stayed to himself in one space, chasing his tail

Everyone knows that Em hates censors, but he realizes that there’s nothing he can do about it. So instead of just putting 5 seconds of silence in the song and sounding ridiculous, he rewrote the lyrics so even the censored version of the song would sound good. There’s actually a great RapGenius blog post about rewriting lyrics for the censors.

The Spice Girls were a Margaret Thatcher-inspired world famous Brit pop girl band, and hate-fucking female pop stars is a theme in Eminem’s radio songs (see also the reference to Pamela Lee a couple lines down).

In “The Real Slim Shady” it’s Christina Aguilera, and in “I’m Back” it’s Jennifer Lopez.

Allegedly, this line was inspired by radio show DJ’s constantly asking Eminem which Spice Girl he would date if he had the choice. He got sick of this question and decided to parody it in his song.
