Note that the religion of the latter group is not discussed. Blair’s core thesis, however poorly worded, is maintained: the problem is not with Islam. To Blair, a loud minority is apparent, one which threatens to undermine the stability and reputation of moderate members of the religion.

Bars! The PS4’s direct rival, the Xbox One, faced harsh criticism not only for its anti-consumer features, but also for its apparent lack of focus on gaming. Do not think that Sony missed the subtext: they knew, thanks to Xbox’s premature launch, that by providing to gamers, they could absolutely win the console battle just at the premier. Based on the feedback and market gains, they did just that.

The reveal of the Xbox One was…not about games or gaming. Instead, first displayed as an “entertainment system,” the Xbox One’s launch left it buried in criticism. For gamers, the complete failure to discuss games meant that the system appeared to be tailored for movies, social feeds, and family games. Because the system was billed as a rival console, this left the effort in a negative light, shifting its target market from players to watchers.

The subtext here is a direct jab at Xbox by Sony. Sony is providing what gamers want, a vocal market that ultimately drives development. By painting themselves as the utopian contrast to the “oppressive,” anti-gamer Microsoft, Sony wins the day. All with one of history’s best “shit-eating” grins!

The Playstation Vita, an heir to the PSP (Playstation Portable), was meant to bridge the gap between full-sized console and handheld system. While its initial launch was lackluster, featuring few games and little unique qualities, it has slowly gained a dedicated following. By allowing the Vita to serve essentially as a second screen and additional system for PS4 games, Sony has doubled its potential profit and exposure. It would not be a surprise to see initial units bundled with a Vita as a small savings for this exact reason.

Based on legal precedent set in the wake of an experimental plane crash in the 1950s, the government is understood to have the permission to keep secret any information “vital to national security.” The “state secrets” measure means that, even if such a committee were formed, even with the President sitting in on it and sharing, little would be discussed. Without a series of court orders, specifically noting what can be considered secret and what must be revealed, it is unlikely that progress can be made.

The PATRIOT Act’s own version of “necessary and proper” gives the federal government widespread authority in halting and disrupting “terrorism.” As expected, the clause and law is widely abused, driving a police-state concept of security that sponsors monitoring everyone to catch a minority. While it is indeed legal, the constitutionality of the measure has not been challenged, making it a taxing law that appears to have eroded support.

Using the measure, the NSA was recently discovered to have monitored and recorded a massive volume of Verizon communications, “legal” under a secret court order stemming from the PATRIOT Act and FISA.
