Perhaps the core of the program and the issues with it. Cybersecurity relies on the elimination of exploits and security failures, thereby making the entire system more secure for all. By maliciously, and illegally, inserting vulnerabilities into networks and IT systems, the NSA knowingly risks every single person connected to that network or using that product.

An excellent case, also NSA driven, was the Stuxnet virus. Designed to destroy Iranian nuclear facilities, the virus targeted a specific GE component, which was used by other facilities. In trying to unleash one exploit, it revealed the existence of a weakness that anyone else could then exploit elsewhere. When one link in the system falls, the entire system is weakened.

The proposal, driven by the White House, called for three things:

  • To establish a front line of defense against today’s immediate threats
  • To defend against the full spectrum of threats
  • To strengthen the future cybersecurity environment

What the SIGINT program appears to suggest is targeted espionage to…prevent espionage, exploiting security flaws in foreign (or domestic) products to prevent said sources from doing the same to the US. While this does, in fact, increase one network’s defense shield, it weakens every other network by inserting actionable flaws into products. If the NSA can find the flaw, an independent programmer can as well.

Completely illegal and a chief complaint of US-China relations, industrial espionage is one of the leading factors in encryption use in the first place. If this were Google or a similar company proposing such a concept, they would face harsh investigation, fines, and possible arrest.

But in the words of Nixon:

“Well, when the NSA does it, that means it is not illegal.

Franco in 2010 shot his short film Herbert White in Suffolk, directing local actors and walk-on extras. The goal was to cast people as “very run down and poor, adults are ‘tired looking’ and mostly alcoholic … the kids are the type to get muddy on the farm, barefoot, etc.”

While it has now been rebranded as a Hilton Garden Inn, the building stands!

Before the 1990s and 2000s, Suffolk faced serious economic decline, reducing it from once-large trade city to a point on the map. However, based on tourism and industry, the city has rebounded, making the Hilton one of many hotels open.

Like Arizona, Russian police can demand your passport at any time. While I can count on one hand the number of times that this happened to me, any one of those cases, had I not had my documents, would have meant fines or arrest.

Always, always carry it.

The “gypsy cab” phenomenon is perfected in Russia. For a price, anyone is a cab service. The downside is that some people will get you in the car, drive to the countryside, then try to/succeed in killing you and robbing you. Some have even been held for ransom.

Dodge this all by taking a real cab. They are frighteningly cheap, reliable, and just…don’t kill you.
