Greed and desire of wanting more, such as wanting two women instead of one, is going to completely ruin him. While he thought that doubling everything, from money to love, would be an investment, it ended up robbing him of his courage and passion.
although i do see where this annotation is coming from i think it has to do more with gravity and in this case, force. if he tries TWICE AS MUCH to keep a relationship, it still wouldnt be as efficient as ONE HALF, or the other half of the relationship (The woman) trying.

While I agree with this annotation, I think the point is still on Gravity. If the gravitational force of the earth was even as little as 2 times what it is now, we would be crushed. The “gravity” in this situation is increasing on John “bringing him down.”

he is still continuing with his depressed feelings. he is saying that with his life being now twice as better as it once was;it is still unfulfilling as he hoped but he can’t stop because society won’t leave him alone. this type of idea appears almost daily with big name celebrities and average joes alike. for the want of being never satisfied people end in more trouble than they intended. just look at the history of some popular celebrities as they changed personas over time or better yet, just look at miley cyrus or bobby brown.
