Blue Dream is a strain of marijuana that Gambino is fond of and has mentioned before in Jhene Aiko’s single “Bed Peace (Remix)”:

It will be like this to the kiss of the death
Of my soul, bowl of the blue dream, no
Not a good team, once soul, two halves

By saying “Bouquet” he implies that he’s going to have A LOT of it. And the heavily distorted vocals reflect this, as they make him sound stoned and disoriented.

The line in question is not written correctly, as Tuesday is stuttered. Tues-day-day-day-day would be better if someone is using the lyrics to sing along. This could also be formated Tues day (4x)

To add, the flower of the marijuana plant is what’s smoked, and a lot of flowers is a bouquet. He’s smoking so many flowers (weed) that he says he’s smoking a bouquet.

Marc Summers hosted the popular Nickelodeon game show Double Dare. And this kicks off a Weezy-esque dismantling of each season, as it can also be heard as “I ‘mark’ (kill) summers”.

Bino definitely killed winter, as he recorded BTI in winter 2012 and released it winter 2013. He got autumn with November 2011’s Camp. And he released the ROYALTY mixtape on the 4th of July in 2012. He’s slacking when it comes to the spring though!

Would it be fair to think that “Nah, Nah, they can’t hold me” is an allusion to Rick Ross' “Can’t Hold Me Back?”

This would work on a couple of levels. One, quite literally is that Bino wanted Ross to play his dad so he literally inherited that attitude from his “father.” The other being that in that previous verse he said: “They want to smoke niggas when they black & mild, so we’re acting out.” It’s well known that Ross adopted Freeway Rick Ross' persona in his music and was really a CO; hence Gambino and Ross both had the same idea to start acting the part of a gangster for one reason or another.

Two days before appearing on Sway and spitting this song, Gambino had an impromptu listening party in Washington Square, NYC. He sat down on a bench and waited for fans to flock and surround him. Afterwards, he answered questions as shown in this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=eGZ7eDJ5gO8.

So this bar is ironic, because recently he showed how much he wanted to see and hear from his fans.

He could also mean that he hates doing official media appearances. Might as well communicate directly with the fans, like he did in Washington Square, so your words can’t get twisted.

This could potentially be a diss to Danny Brown, who went on tour with Gambino in 2012 and appeared on his mixtape, Royalty. However, Gambino did not appear on Danny’s new album Old and in an interview, when asked about how he felt about Gambino’s first album, Camp, he said:

I listened to it. Hey, it’s better than Mac Miller’s. That’s my response. It’s better than Mac Miller’s.

He didn’t really like it, but he still went on tour with Gambino, and Gambino (if this is trully a diss aimed at Brown) is saying that he just did that to build up his fame.

‘Check your tone’ could be referring to Danny’s very high pitched voice

Do you think there’s also any implication to the setting of the freestyle itself? Do you think Donald has any insecurities that Sway doesn’t even really like him and is just trying to get Donald’s fans to watch/listen to his radio show? I guess that also brings up whether this rhyme was completely prewritten or not, I think not. Mostly because of the reference to Jay-Z’s verse on the Drake album in one of Gambino’s later verses. That’s just me, tho

Gambino is really popular now. He often mentions how people say he “makes music for white kids” which isn’t commonly considered a demographic of people who listen to rap. Gambino prefers to cosign with rappers he likes, so he doesn’t like it when people try to get on a track with him just to try to get new fans.

Buddists will self-immolate (to set oneself on fire) in order to protest, to show devotion or in response to renouncement.

‘Bino is saying he is as hot as someone on fire.

One of the most famous self-immolations was the one of Buddhist monk Quang Doc in June 1963 in protest to Diem’s corrupt, nepotistic regime in the South.

Also Buddha is slang for weed, he’s saying that he’s dope, that he’s high and smoking on his own, and that he’s fire

Also a play on words; “self-immolate” sounds like “self-emulate,” meaning he doesn’t have to copy anyone else’s style; his own is good enough, i.e. “hot on [his] own.”

“Beans” are slang for ecstasy pills. His supposed “homies” stole drugs from his medicine cabinet and had a bad trip.

Spoiler alert for screenplay:

Reading his screenplay that accompanies the album reveals a scene where the main character’s girlfriend and a groupie at one of his parties stole drugs from his cabinet and started tripping off of them. While they were high, they offered to have a threesome with The Boy (which was CG)

There’s a problem with the screenplay addendum: Sasha is NOT The Boy’s girlfriend, and it is never confirmed that they stole something, it’s just a suspicion.

Bino plays on the “patients/patience” homophone to say that he doesn’t have the tolerance to help other people with their problems because he has enough to deal with on his own. (Patients are the people that go to the doctor to get treated)
