Kendrick transforms with pressure like a rough diamond, polishing himself around the edges before being ready (bouncing back) to hit the spotlight.
K.Dot struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts throughout the recording process of his 2015 album To Pimp A Butterfly and prior to that, the pressure he felt around the time of his debut studio album, good kid, m.A.A.d city.
Kendrick’s transformation is not from a rough to a polished diamond; it is the (cartoon science) transformation of coal into a diamond through pressure, popularized by Superman in the DC comic books, where on several occasions, Superman squeezes a lump coal with his bare hands to create a valuable diamond.
The coal-pressure-diamond transformation is a call back to the caterpillar-cocoon-butterfly metamorphosis from “To Pimp A Butterfly”. The coal represents Kendrick’s life growing up in Compton, while the diamond “represents the talent, the thoughtfulness
and the beauty within” Kendrick, now unlocked through hard work, prayer, and paying dues.
good kid, m.A.A.d city. is Kendrick Lamar’s second album, after section.80.

More than diamond here we have gold which needs to be passed through extreme great and high temperatures before we see it sparkle as it does.So Kendrick here sees gold in himself and recognises the fact that the pressure the game and life(such as his suicidal thoughts and drinking) put on him just makes him a better person as we see now.The second line just reflects the first but here he uses a better and different aspect to bring out the same message
