A play on “to sing one’s praises,” he wants to make it obvious he’s doing the contrary by stating twice, clearly, in English to avoid any ambiguity: it’s not an anthem to America, it serves to express Till’s disgust for Americanization.
Even though, the general tone of the song tends to feel like an anthem, it’s actually a satire.
“I don’t sing my mother tongue” is also pertinent considering that the English language has made its way into global media all over the world, due considerably to American media and war. Many artists from non-English-speaking countries sing in English, and Till’s use of English here is a rarity amongst most of Rammstein’s music.
The line “this is not a love song” is likely a reference to Public Image Ltd’s song “(This is not) A Love Song”, another satirical song against capitalism and corporate greed.
“I don’t sing my mother’s tongue” is also a reference to immigrants losing their language (and other traditions) from generation to generation. It could be an example that supports the idea that Americans would rather change everyone else so they fit in America then just let the other people develop in their own way.
