You see rappers with gold chains, wearing Audemars, sipping Ciroc, driving an top class Benz on a daily basis, specially if you’re in the industry.

You prolly know the feeling too of wanting something so bad even if you know you don’t really need it or something far more cheaper could do the trick.

Ironic that we burn money on material things that depreciate so fast while we could save money for our kids or for when you’ll need it the most.

The hook and title of this song (and its album) were inspired by a conversation he had with his grandmother:

LL Cool J released Mama Said Knock You Out, regarded by many as his magnum opus. It was a booming, layered response to those who felt he had begun his slide into oblivion. Though ‘Mama’ is used in the album’s title, it was actually LL’s grandmother who gave him the directive to knock out his critics.

This song is aimed at rappers, especially Kool Moe Dee who LL had a long feud with, as well as critics who claimed his music had become too soft due to the inclusion of several ballads on his previous album, Walking with a Panther and the earlier international success of “I Need Love”.

K.Dot begins this verse with idea of his victory already being in sight. When a drag race begins, he’s as eager for the Detox to drop as a person who no longer wishes to be his master’s property proving through its own simplicity that he is his own man instead!!

“tire marks, tire marks”

Kendrick starts by saying tire marks twice, setting a scene: a race has begun, it seems, and he’s put his pedal to the floor of his car; he’s going as hard as he can from the start (whether the race is his career, his life, or this freestyle), so get ready.

“finish line with the tire marks”

Hold up, tire marks at the finish line? You dont burn out at the finish line, you don’t brake til well after the finish line, why are there tire marks there? Because once kendrick starts… the race is over. He steps on the gas, its through, no one else even has a chance.

“when the relay starts I’m a runaway slave”

I’m guessing he’s the anchor. Once it’s kendrick’s turn, once someone hands him the torch and gives him full access to the game, he’s gone like the white man’s after him (deadly fast, as stated before).

In a video that recently hit the net, teen rap sensation Soulja Boy accused Queensbridge vet Nas of killing hip-hop.

“Real talk the nigga that killed hip-hop for real is Nas, dawg,” he said. “He came out publicly and said hip-hop is dead, and then after that everybody start saying [it].

The meaning of the line is that a D-list rapper, like Soulja Boy, shouldn’t be able to speak AT ALL, let alone poorly, of a rapper as great as Nas. And he’s wondering why the hip-hop community let him get away with such ignorant statements.

For many people, it takes a long time to come to terms with murder. By saying he has plenty of time, he tells you he has no issue with killing someone.

This is also a demonstration of his ambition. By suggesting “i aint got nothin but time” he envisions himself being around for a long time, even before he began.

It’s also a double entendre if you see it as not only you get jail time for murder if worst scenario, you get caught but most of the time you get a life sentence. So yeah, only thing you got left is time.
