Amsterdam ArenA

Club: AFC Ajax

Capacity: 53.000

The Amsterdam ArenA was built in the 90’s, because the stadiums Ajax used to play their games in (De Meer (19.000) and the Olympic Stadium (22.000)) were to small.

The stadium has a retractable roof, so that the players can stay warm and cosy.

The Amsterdam ArenA is one of the few stadiums rated 5-stars by the UEFA.
It’s also the 3rd steepest stadium in Europe, which is quite scary when you’re getting up to take a piss.

With 50.194 supporters average, the Amsterdam ArenA is in the top 10 most visited stadiums per game. (It’s at number 9 to be precise).

The only clubs that have more supporters per average game (in thousands) are respectively:
-Borussia Dortmund (80.451)
-Manchester United
-FC Barcelona
-Real Madrid
-Bayern Munchen
-Schalke
-Arsenal
-Hamburger SV

Davy Klaassen

Klaassen had his big breakthrough last season.

The 21 year old already made his debute in 2011, and even scored in his official (league) debute (assisted by Eriksen)…
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1-ePIcaDvk
…but suffered from a long knee-injury afterwards.

The attacking midfielder recovered from his injury, and surprised a lot of people with his skills and scoring 11 goals in one season.
He was even compared with Ajax and Arsenal-legend Dennis Bergkamp.
He scored his first hattrick against NAC Breda.

The 2nd half of the season was less succesful for Klaassen.
He almost got selected for the national team, but I think it’s better that he didn’t get picked.
Hopefully the rest did him good.

Ricardo Kishna

At the age of 15, Kishna left ADO Den Haag for Ajax.
While playing in the youth, Kishna got problems with the cartilage in both his knees.
The doctors didn’t think he would ever fully recover from this.

After surgery, Kishna was in a wheelchair for 3 weeks and had to recover for 18 months.

It’s quite a mystery how Kishna, even after this injury, was still known as perhaps Ajax’s biggest talent.
He played a few games for Ajax u21, but was called up for the first team in January 2014.
A week later, he played his first friendly game against Trabzonspor.
A few bad passes, and a missed penalty, but overall he left a good impression.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3ikkY7ELCs

He scored a great goal on his official debute against AZ.

This season, Kishna will be in the first 11, also thanks to Fischer’s injury.
Will his knees let him down again, or will he become one of the best players in the world, like he said he wants to be?

Jedi Mind Trick’s Violent By Design is, as far as I can remember, the first full album I ever listened to.

I liked it and decided to name myself after one of the songs on the album with the GOAT production by the GOAT producer Stoupe:

The moment we’ve all been waiting for:
The Dutch football season finally begins.

We’re starting off with the annual Dutch super cup, here known as the ‘Johan Cruijff Schaal’.
League title winner Ajax will face Dutch cup winner PEC Zwolle.

At first sight, you might think PEC Zwolle will be the underdogs in this game, but let’s not forget that this is only rematch of the cup final, won by PEC who humiliated Ajax with a 5-1 score.

This win has earned them a ticket for the Europa League for the first time in their history.

Will this game be a repeat of the cup final or will Ajax avenge their loss?

Frank Lampard will spend the first half of the 2014/15 season on loan at Manchester City.

The 36-year-old signed for New York City last month on a two-year contract.
But because the Major League Soccer starts in March, this is a great way for Lampard to stay fit.

Althought not every Chelsea fan is too fond with the idea of Manchester City’s new signing, since Lampard has played at Stamford Bridge for 13 years, Lampard has agreed with his new club, that he won’t be selected for the games against Chelsea.
Lampard scored 211 goals in 649 matches for Chelsea, making him the club’s record scorer.

Rene Higuita is a retired Colombian goalkeeper, most famous for creating the ‘Scorpion Kick’ against England in 1995.

(The Scorpion Kick is shown again in the video below at 3:10)

With 41 goals Higuita is listed as the 4th highest goalscoring goalkeeper of all time.
You may think Neuer’s a sweeper keeper, but this guy went a little overboard (vacuum keeper. High-five…no? alright.)
His attempts to score another Maradona-England solo goal got him the nickname ‘El Loco’.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LA6oQufLcD8

It didn’t always work so well.
Speaking of Maradona, Higuita was only slightly taller than him (5ft7,5 / 172 m).

In 1993 he was in jail for 7 months after getting involved in a kidnapping with the drug baron Pablo Escobar.
His comment on the case:

“I’m a footballer, I didn’t know anything about kidnapping laws.”

When Ron Atkinson was asked about the goalkeeper, he spoke the words:
‘We’ve got absolutely no interest in him. We’ve got a goalkeeper with a better trick – he stops the ball with his hands’.

Ron Atkinson clearly wasn’t impressed with Higuita’s antics.
He’s more into goalkeepers that are doing their job the way they’re suppose to be.
Staying in their own box, and stopping oncoming shots with their damn hands.

Another talented youngster.

At the age of 18, Meleg left Vojvodina to join Ajax.
The young Serbian scored 12 goals in his 27 games for Jong Ajax (u21), but hasn’t made his official debute yet.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBev4bV0H-E

Hey, that goal looks familiar, we know Meleg did it better tho.

The left footer was first placed in the right winger position, but after a few sloppy games, he was changed to a striker, which suited him better.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRsQBBC-tdc

He has been loaned out to SC Cambuur, since Meleg didn’t look ready yet for a spot in the first eleven.

He already scored 2 goals in his friendly games.
And what a goal this was:
