Jay is referring to the fictional character Richard “Cochise” Morris from the 1975 movie Cooley High. He was a popular basketball player and ladies' man who ended up being murdered by criminals Stone and Rob after a misunderstanding. It was a tragic end that produced tears from people close to Cochise, like his best friend Leroy “Preach” Jackson, as well as tears from those watching the movie.
