Friendzone was an American instrumental hip hop duo consisting of producers James Laurence and Dylan Reznick.
They are the producers of this track, hence the shoutout from Yung Lean.

Following the series of chair references, Lu plays on the concept that relates thrones with power. Kings, who are often the highest power of their respective countries, sit upon thrones (note the connection to the name of the mixtape, I Am King, and the cover art depicting a throne).
However, Lupe is saying that ‘gangstas’ want power, yet the reality is the rich chairmen at the head of the music industry have the true power. It is instead they who have the coveted ‘thrones’, for they are the ones with influence, money, and property (companies).
Unless, of course, you’re Hov – then you’re both on the throne and a chairman.
Flip side of this is that the people have the real power. That people want the throne cause they think it provides the power, but real power is in the men who sit in chairs (i.e. the masses). More of a message of, you already have the power…use it!
