On some level, the real enemy isn’t the North Vietnamese, the war is unnecessary and the real enemy is the U.S Government.
But Thorburn is in denial. During this tirade, he gets engulfed in the the U.S. propaganda, as it is the easiest option for him to call up the courage to face the oppressive danger of Vietnam.
The dismissive “bitch please” shows that he’s not afraid.
I think when he says ‘bitch please’ about the North Vietnamese being the enemy he is referring to the fact that Communist allies such as China and the Soviets were backing them, making them the actual enemy of the war.
Surely he’s not saying hes not afraid, but is more like saying, bitch please, as in theyre not really the enemy, the enemy, like you said above is the government
