Mo' money, mo' problems

This song doesnt fit on the quote above, this is focusing more on the positive aspects of being succesful and having the pockets full.

J. Cole is tracing a flow Jay-Z spit in part of his song titled ‘Imaginary Player’ off his In My Lifetime, Vol. 1 album. Here’s a small sample of Jay’s opening verse.

You beer money, I’m all year money/
I’m “papi, you ain’t got to count it, it’s all there” money/
I never change money cause niggas got strange money/
NARC’d up, marked up, fucked up in the game money/
I got bail money, XXL money/
You got flash now, but time will reveal money/

Like Hov, Cole opens the song, using Hov’s flow and style in that particular song, to brag about his own money and the things he spends it on. However, Cole takes this flow further by using it for the entire song and making a deep/meaningful statement about the role of money in our un-equal society.

And finally, Cole pays his respect to the king of pop:
Michael Jackson.

An interesting figure to compare himself to because of the controversial alleged “sinning” from a man gifted to make music–in some ways he fits the description of a Born Sinner.

Earlier in the song Cole says “pretty young thing”, seemingly an allusion to Michael’s song “P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing).”

Let me stroke – as in touch your body or let me hit it.

Money in exchange for sex. Hence she’s a prostitute. That’s basically her way of making an income in this society and it’s all she knows how to do.

Whites are in control of money the rappers are making and the white men are laughing at these black rappers and performers that make millions of dollars, but in reality that’s nothing compared to the billions they got in their bank. They are the ones who are giving the black rappers the money (“get your money”). So no matter how rich black rappers are, they are patronized by even richer white men.

The term “nigga” in this line used by the white billionaires could also be taken as racist and reminiscent of a time period when slavery existed.

They are laughing because blacks spend money on things white businessmen own. So in the end white businessmen will make a profit and blacks will have less money because they spent it on material wealth. Cole is suggesting white business owners are now encouraging blacks (in a sarcastic way) to get more money because they are in control of what blacks do with it.

Cole just mentioned people that could laugh at Jigga’s networth, they’re obviously billionaires or something close, which made billions from digging up coal and petroleum.

Chris Rock gives a very similar example by comparing Bill Gates to Oprah in his snippet about the difference between “rich & wealthy”.

Also a very clever play on words, Coal money – Cole money!

Also, in one episode of Martin the character named Cole said “For 2 million dollars, I’d kill myself.”.

Additionally, billionaires typically do not make it where they are financially without sucking the life out of the people who got them there. For example, John. D Rockefeller, one of the richest men to live, used that practice. He was very smart, and an expert at micromanaging. However his millions of workers were going home with about 7 dollars a week. This was barely enough to survive, leaving them in poverty.

The first thought would be that he’s referring to the band Maroon 5, whose lead singer is Adam Levine, but he’s not – Cole just bought a brand new maroon colored Audi A5, or a BMW 5.

Or he’s talking about the Air Jordan Maroon 5’s
