Churches often put far too much emphasis on receiving tithes instead of on presenting the proper message worthy of agreement and devotion.

In a metaphorical sense I should focus on presenting a positive message instead of trying to copy what is popular and sells best.

I should lift people up with emotional, spiritual music instead of trying to bring them down with hatred.

Nas is a poet who often raps about being a better person or trying to make the world a better place or at the very least points out the wrong in the world.

A basement is low and a loft is high so an elevator can be used to get from one to the other. This is a metaphor that emphasizes the idea of elevation.

Churches are often described as lofty so I am saying I should rap with a more spiritual message.

Nas is nearing the end of his career and someone needs to take over. Might as well try to slide into that spot.

One of the greatest diss songs ever came from overusing gay jokes so why shouldn’t I do the same? Ether is the song that made Nas relevant again and jumpstarted the latter half of his career which reinforced his legacy as one of the top contenders for GOAT.
