“Vámonos” translates from Spanish to English as “Let’s go!”

HOV is one of Jay’s many nicknames, derived from the latinization of the Hebraic name for God, Jehovah, used by Jay-Z to imply he’s the God of the rap game.
Jefe is Spanish for “boss,” which Jay-Z most certainly is figuratively and literally.

This also continues the Latin influence in this verse and he begins the next line with a translation.

Could Jay also be a guerrilla?
More than just a continuation of Latin influence, the use of the term “Jefe” might be a nod to former Cuban president Fidel Castro, whose nickname was El Jefe. Hov first shouted out Fidel on “Otis” when he said:

Welcome to Havana
Smoking cubanos with Castro in cabanas

The line is consistent with Jay’s regard for Latin revolutionaries generally, as he first displayed on “Public Service Announcement” with the line:

I’m like Che Guevara with bling on: I’m complex

These lines are invoking the panic state of emotions that people with real beef on the streets have whenever they’re threatened with the thought of murder. Children and wives are hidden and moved to places without plain sight while real beef injects a certain fear into people that will make them search for God through prayer.

This line could easily be interpreted as a further shot at Drake seeing how Drake has had more than several examples of hiding behind other artists, who aren’t actually known for being as tough or gun-toting as they may claim.

  • When Drake dissed Common (as pictured above) on “Stay Schemin',” it’s easy to say he hid behind Rick Ross who presents himself as a hardened street boss.

  • Drake also trails behind his YMCMB mentor Lil Wayne who has never shot or harmed anyone (except himself).

  • Drake also hid behind Birdman when the Common situation was at its peak. Drake didn’t respond at all, whilst Birdman came out on the radio and said this:

Drake the homie, so we ride or die. Ain’t no second questions about that. But we’ve never been a brand to make records and wanna make records and make money off of making records of other people. That’s not what we ‘bout. So, to me, however the young homie deal with it, we behind him and we supporting him 100% with our life. So that’s just how it is. Ain’t no other way. Drake the little homie. That’s blood; that’s family. And ain’t no siding with that. It’s Drake or nothing.

However, Tribe’s fourth studio album reached number one on Billboard, so Phife fulfills his prophecy.
