You can only gain an advantage at the detriment of other nations without a hint of cynicism if you go off one assumption:

We own the world and thus other nations have no business trying to do better than us.

This mentality is common in all hegemonic powers, it should be no surprise that the primary intelligence-gathering arm of the largest military power in the history of mankind would use its own capabilities to give its own economic forces an edge (a little corporate sabotage here, a little sabotage here, nothing big I assure you).

The original memo, translated to English, can be found here.

This may help explain some aspects of the more radical elements of the “rebels” as all opposing forces are collectively called by the United States media. The “rebels” have been more and more taking on a more radical stance, more in line with the groups Saudia Arabia supports or has supported (such as the Taliban, Al Qaeda, and others).

#Well why should we expect everything?

The geopolitical struggle surrounding the Syrian Arab Republic includes dominant factors within the American war machine such as oil interests, “stability”, but mainly deal with the conscious choice of policy the United States has pursued against the Arab world going back to Einsenhower; securing interests at risk of a “campaign of hatred”.

First off: OIL

Nafeez Ahmed, head of the Institute for Policy & Development (an independent think tank which specializes in violent conflicts with geopolitical context), poignantly stated in the Guardian that the

Syria intervention plan fueled by oil interests, not chemical weapon concern

Syria is very important in the oil business (to such an extent that Britain planned to invade as early as 2009) . The nation has a bright future oil-wise, holding reserves only matched in the Eastern Mediterrean region by Iraq (2.2 billion barrels to be exact) and is at a key point in the international energy transit system that draws huge amounts of power from the Middle East. It’s importance in the oil trade, along with its alliance with another huge oil producer (one the US does not control; Iran), make the nation a target of any attempts to bring Iran into the US orbit, side effects including bolstering Sunni extremists in the region and terrorism as a whole (as was the case circa 2007).

Second: The Isolation of Iran

Iran has been a target of the US not only recently, but for most of its history going back to our coup of their democratically elected leader, Prime Minister Mohammad Mosaddegh, in a MI6-CIA 1953 coup d'état and our establishing a dictator in his place. This dictator was overthrown in 1979 and the United States has been torturing Iran ever since (sanctions, supporting Saddamn in the Iran-Iraq War, etc.).

Taking down Iran’s closest ally would leave Iran with little room for resisting Western sanctions due to its non-existent nuclear weapons. By isolating Iran, making it weaker to Western (primarily US power) and otherwise “stabilizing” the nation, an amazing amount of power comes from the now “friendly” oil reserves within US orbit, namely the 150 billion barrels of petroleum (10% of the world’s reserves) with close to over 130 billion barrels of oil and 138 billion barrels of liquid hydrocarbons. We’ve gone to war for Big Oil for less resources.

The Assyrian people go way, way back, direct descendants of the Akkadians (Sumerians–one of the ancient Mesopotamian civilizations–who emerged around 2800 BCE), having emerged out of the fall of the Akkadian empire and forming Assyria.

Today, contrary to the article’s statement, they are indigenous to many nations within the Middle East but a large part of the population which was once in Iraq has been displaced by the American invasion of the nation.

It is important to note that the civil war in Syria is largely sectarian, with the most noticeable split between the primarily Sunni Islam population and the ruling minority, a Shia Islam sect known as the Alawites, of which Assad and his top military and political officials are a part.

The schism between both sects of Islam goes far, far back to the Prophet Muhammad and his death 632 CE. The differences evolved out of disputes over the succession of Muhammad and built up in tension until the first Muslim civil war in what is now Ar-Raqqah, Syria (now under the control of the Al Qaeda affiliated Al-Nursa Front).

Does this sound familiar?.

One of the few things all states have in common is that the majority of their classified documents is in fact an internal record discussing how important it is for them to keep their secrets secret from the public. Such a program could upset the region, mainly because it’s not only an egregious act, essentially a declaration of war, but it is mainly a sectarian move as Saudi Arabia is of Sunni Islam and Assad of Shia Islam (albeit, an Alawite–a minority sect).
