This an essential definition of authority. Authority is coercion which enacts methods such as brute force and propaganda and institutional controls to ensure that dominance is maintained over man, for whatever purpose(s). While there are questions of when authority is legitimate and not, there is a universal understanding that the form of authority idealized by those who use brute force as a method of coercion is one in which it is a tool to enable total authority to an agent, whether it be a state or demagogue.

Such a state of affairs, no pun intended, is one inherently opposed by anarchists such as Bakunin who feel that there should be no force acting on a man so as to limit his own liberty as the limit of liberty for one man is the limit of liberty for all men.

This is not the first or last time that Bakunin slants the French philosopher Jean Jacques Rousseau, widely agreed to be the father of Romanticism, clear even in Bakunin’s day. Bakunin takes issue with Rosseau’s conception of the individual and their rights, forming a sort of social contract between the individual and state which is required to ensure that individuals do not trample on one another, a social contract which may begin as a negligible compromise but quickly sprawls into a situation in which the state gains more and more agency at the cost of man’s own freedom, “reducing the rights of the individual to zero” as Bakunin succinctly put. He rebukes this idea in another work, termed Rousseau’s Theory of State” in which he states:

According to the theory of the social contract primitive men enjoying absolute liberty only in isolation are antisocial by nature. When forced to associate they destroy each other’s freedom. If this struggle is unchecked it can lead to mutual extermination. In order not to destroy each other completely, they conclude a contract, formal or tacit, whereby they surrender some of their freedom to assure the rest. This contract becomes the foundation of society, or rather of the State, for we must point out that in this theory there is no place for society; only the State exists, or rather society is completely absorbed by the State.

As one can see, an anarchist would take issue with this arrangement of events resulting from Rousseau’s state for many reasons including:

  • The assumption that man is better off isolated and evil or antisocial by nature, so far as to destroy his fellow man or have complete disregard for his own autonomy
  • The coerced surrender of autonomy of man by a state instead of his fellow man, as Rousseau claims would happen
  • The rapid expansion of the State until it covers all aspects of society and can guarantee a social contract and fair state of affairs between humans in all arenas
  • The existence of only the State and man, the State destroying and impeding any efforts to bring man together with man for fear of the antisocial nature which may come to root

Two meanings for ice cream in this situation:

  • “Ice cream” has been refereed to as crack cocaine for a long time in hip hop. This meaning is supplemented by the later part of the line “pipe dreams”, a reference to dreams that burn with the crack pipe.

  • Actual ice cream, continuing off of the Cold Stone’s line that appears previously. Cold Stones’s produces some dope ass ice cream though, you would be safe calling it crack.

Clever wordplay here.

“Chrome” is slang for a firearm, most likely a silver one, as they are both metal and have a certain allure to them.

In fact, Rozay always has his gun on him that it’s second nature, almost as if it was in his DNA to carry “chrome”. Chromosomes are highly structured pieces of DNA which contain genes, the basic blueprints for a biological being. Genes can dictate behavior, Ross is implying he was born to hold guns, born to be a G.

Also, note the assosnance with “tote”, “chrome” and “chromosomes”, repeating the “o” vowel sound.

Propaganda, corporate or state, is by its very nature an shadowy tactic which is not meant to be noticed, only working in the background to subliminally affect one’s mind.

Here One Be Lo is pointing towards propaganda being far worse than the subliminal messages of Hollywood movies and products, enticing people to continue and throw themselves at a culture of consumption and celebrity worship.
