Translation correction: On the screen, it states that Ali Ahmed says “…six of whom are Islamists,” when he really says, “…six of whom are "al-Ikhwayn (al-Muslimoon)” (الإخوان المسلمون)“ meaning that they represent the Muslim Brotherhood. Not the same thing, as "Islamists” is a word that may be contain or more negative connotation.


Egypt’s Constituent Assembly included six women out of the body’s one hundred members (six percent) to even entertain a discussion of equality as anything less than farcical, women must have a larger share of the assembly (closer to their 50 percent would be a start).

The state of post 9/11 civil liberties was purported to be a temporary side effect of the re-declared “War On Terror”, this time now targeting the Middle East instead of Latin America.

The bills, such as the PATRIOT ACT (you gotta hand it to them on the jingoism), the PATRIOT II basically disassemble your rights as a citizen of the United States as espoused in the Bill of Rights if you for any reason are suspicious in the eyes of arbitary government officials. Sound familiar?.

Edward Snowden, the 29-year old NSA whistleblower blew the lid on what was probably the most grotesque transgression of the Consitution in the history of this nation by revealing the NSA program termed PRISM.

Simply put, all data communications flowing in and out of the United States and the infrastructure of its largest companies (therefore most of the world’s communications) are indefinitely stored. They can be reviewed, sepcific individuals can be wiretapped without justification (or a warrant for that matter), and otherwise treated as if they were not domestic communications but communications within the USSR (if it still existed).

Daniel Ellsberg is the author of “Secrets: A Memoir of Vietnam and the Pentagon Papers.” He was charged in 1971 under the Espionage Act of 1917 as well as for theft and conspiracy for copying the Pentagon Papers. The trial was dismissed in 1973 after evidence of government misconduct, including illegal wiretapping, was introduced in court.
