Drugs are notorious for being not only addictive, but altering. Those who take drugs are rarely the same person they were before they started using drugs, even if they manage to quit or use it recreationally. Thus, Vic asks if you, like him, have ever been dependent on drugs before, which have forever altered who he is as a person.

A common phrase when the mob kills someone is that they are now “sleeping with the fishes”. This is due to the fact that the body is often dumped in the water, where fishes are readily found. Fish are also seafood. Thus, Vic is threatening to kill somebody and then dump their body in the water, forcing them to sleep with the fishes and essentially be seen as seafood, just as fish are.

The IRS or Internal Revenue Service handles taxes. If somebody files their taxes incorrectly, they risk being audited by the IRS and, essentially, having their entire financial life under a microscope. However, Ludacris is not worried about this happening because not only does his pay his tax time and does it correctly, he already pays a lot.

How much a person pays in taxes is determined by their income. The higher your income, the higher percentage you pay in taxes. As Ludacris makes a lot of money each year, he pays a high percentage of that income back in taxes.

Dividends are from stocks and are paid out by the company to its stockholders. As Ludacris is receiving a lot in dividends, it is clear he is doing quite well on the stock market and is certainly diversifying his portfolio.

Assets are things you own and liabilities are things you owe, such as loans. For accounting purposes, assets are the sum of all of a companies liabilities added to all of its equity (made up of things such as stocks and funding from owners). However, here Ludacris is talking about net worth, which is equal to assets – liabilities.

Once he learned how important that was, he sought to limit his liabilities (by taking on less loans for cars, for example) and maximize his assets.

When they broke off their relationship, Oddisee was like many people when they initially break up; they think everything will get better and they will just go and improve themselves. However, in many committed relationships (and this one outlined in this track certainly sounds like one), there is a sort of mourning period after you break up that both parties go through.

Oddisee has come to this realization and, as outlined earlier in the track, was trying to find the confidence to call her again and found it in weed. Now that he is high, he takes the chance to try and rescind the words he said when they broke up and convince her he did not mean any of them and he still has feelings for her.

He knows the only way he can get through to her at this time is if he lays it all out there. He realizes there are major obstacles to them getting back together and they were going through an extraordinarily rough time in their financial lives at the time of their breakup. But, he feels as though if he finally reveals everything on his mind, he can hopefully win back her heart.

In trying to deal with the pain he feels from losing this girl, Oddisee is using weed to try to make him feel better. However, it’s also giving him the extra “push” he needs to call this girl and try to talk it out with her. Yet, he’s nervous she may not take him seriously due to his not being sober, so he wants to re-assure her that, yes, he is serious and this is not the drugs talking. The weed is simply just giving him the confidence to finally broach the topic and tell her how he really feels about everything.

Typically, Oddisee and this girl are always able to work out their differences. Cooler heads prevail and then they kiss and makeup. However, it just does not seem like it is possible. However, he is willing to try and it is eating him up inside that he lost her. Ultimately, he is hoping that they could fix the leaks in their relationship (a la a plumber with a leaky faucet) and put all of their differences behind them and move forward.
