Rush drummer and lyricist Neil Peart wrote this about his first trip away from home. In 1971, at 18, driven by musical ambition and an insatiable desire to travel, explore, and learn about everything, he escaped the narrow world of his small-town (He lived in Hamilton, Ontario, but grew up in Port Dalhousie, Ontario.) Canadian life and flew to England.

Neil worked as a Parts manager before leaving to England.

After a discouraging stint in England to concentrate on his music, Peart returned home, where he joined a local Toronto band, Rush, in the summer of 1974

Born October 3, 1994, Seth Jones is an American junior ice hockey defenseman. He is currently playing with the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League. Jones' stellar play throughout the season slated him to potentially become the 1st African-American player to be drafted 1st overall. However, it was when he and MacKinnon met during the Memorial Cup playoffs that Jones' stock dropped, from the obvious play of MacKinnon (Who practically carried his team during the Memorial Cup run).

Having played 61 games (Plus a slew of international and playoffs games as well) for the Winterhawks and having scored 56 points in his rookie season is impressive.

Here is his track record in international play.

Medal record

Competitor for United States United States
World Junior Championships
Gold 2013 Ufa
IIHF World U18 Championship
Gold 2012 Czech Republic

Alexsander Barkov Jr. is a Finnish-Russian professional ice hockey centre. He is currently playing for the Tappara of the SM-liiga. Barkov amassed 21 goals and 27 assists for 48 points in only 53 games. That might sound a little feeble compared to the MacKinnons and Drouin’s of the draft but remember, Barkov is playing in a men’s league whereas most of the other players in this draft have played against their peers.

Here is a scouting report by Corey Pronman of Hockey Prospectus:

He’s a 6-foot-3 center. His dad is a Russian who played in Russia and then finished his career in Finland, which is where the family settled, so that’s why he plays for Finland in all the international tournaments. He’s a combination of a goal-scorer and a playmaker. He played the past two years in the Finnish Elite League and this past year was very impressive. He was top 10 in scoring in the men’s league as a 17-year-old. The one thing that’s interesting about this kid is that we’ve never ever seen him play in his own age group at some of the international tournaments. When they had the U-17 championships, he was the third-line center of the Finnish World Juniors team. He’s big, he’s mobile, he’s a very good skater, he’s got puck handling ability and he’s a good defensive player.
