In the intro to this song. Prof. E. has asked his manservant… well, chimpservant, Geoffery, to fetch his “fighting trousers.” Geoffery, being a chimp, doesn’t pick the right ones at first – it turns out that Prof. E. has different trousers for many different occasions, such as drinking tea or time traveling.

Considering Mr. B’s “The Tweed Album” was released 2 years after the release of “Indifference Engine”, On which this song was released, It’s effectively impossible Professor Elemental is referencing said album here, Unless he actually does have those Time Travel Trousers.

The lyric is aimed towards one of Mr. B’s songs ‘Hail the Chap’, in which he lays out the rules of the ‘Chap Manifesto’. Rule one of the Chap Manifesto is ‘One must always wear tweed, it’s the only fabric you shall ever need.’
