Most rappers today are still making the same club banging songs about money and girls and sex and cars and drugs that have been going on for around a decade. And anyone who follows music or fashion or anything that is set in trends, this trend has been going on for a long time in rap music. It is a flame, but it’s slowly fading out, something new has to happen to take it’s place, one example of someone who is breaking this trend currently and is having success is Macklemore. His major debut album, The Heist, with Ryan Lewis has had major mainstream success for being done virtually, fully independent. Songs like Same Love, and Thrift Shop used artists that were unheard of and not known and with great success. While trends are good and set a normality, they do need to change, and the current one is a fire that is, simply dying out.

Between most of the singles you hear on the radio, there are songs that don’t get radio play because they are not “radio friendly” and because of this, you don’t ever hear or see or read the lines they write that tell a story, tell so much more than anything you’d ever hear on the radio. And anytime you listen to the radio, you will hear them say they’re bringing you the best in hip-hop today, no, they’re not, they’re bringing the most catchy that hip-hop has to offer. The majority of the time, the songs you don’t hear on the radio, the songs you don’t know are the ones with much more meaning and depth and because of this, it has become a crying shame.

Continuing with the example of Lupe Fiasco, he lost his choice and ability to choose on how he wanted his albums to come out. Because of this, the album was tainted, by those who just wanted to make money. Due to this process, the album in a sense contracted a disease, which is, an album with meaning and depth and lyrical strength lost all in the pursuit of money by Atlantic Records

The majority of rappers in the industry right now are currently being termed as “selling out” and “mainstream” and other terms which most people would consider negative when it comes to rap. Still there are some who have not sold out yet and are not what most call “mainstream.” As of right now, a good example of someone who has become soulless and sold out to get money and fans is the one Lupe Fiasco.

If one looked at his first few albums, you could see he was unique, had his own voice and taste of the game and how it should be done with great success. He wasn’t on the radio, but he had a strong following and was producing great music. But when the album Lasers came out, he quickly shot up and become what most say is mainstream as he was radio friendly, he didn’t approach music in the same way and just wasn’t being what most had become accustomed to. Also, later on, it was revealed that the label he was signed to, Atlantic Records, forced him to make a large part of that album, and even his follow up album, Food and Liquor 2, which could explain why he changed so much. While it is still unclear, he lost his voice and sold out just to maintain an audience which stole, or siphoned some listeners from finding other artists with perhaps much more to say, or the vessels with voices.

Eminem growing up felt like he was a fighter against the world, he felt like no one quite understood him and that he was being attacked for one reason or another. He addressed this in an interview before with the following quote

You know, not to sound corny or nuthin', but I felt like a fighter comin' up, man. I felt like, you know, I’m being attacked for this reason or that reason, and I gotta fight my way through this.

Another double entendre, he could be referring to his car and how it’s clean and ready to go, his grip to the stirring wheel is mean and just totally amping himself up on his material things making him not your average ordinary dude.

However, this could also be referring to him as maybe being a bit kinky in the sack and talking about how he uses a whip and how his grip on her ass and or the whip to which he uses on the girl is mean and tight

He’s sipping on lean

Lean is a popular drink originating from Houston Texas containing the following:

-Promethazine w/Codeine VC <- Sizzurp (active ingredient)
-Original Sprite Soda <- Mixing ingredient (although different flavors of sprite are now used, such as sprite remix)
-Jolly rancher candy <- Flavor additive

The codeine is mainly responsible for the euphoric feeling after drinking lean. Promethazine then causes motor skill impairment, lethargy, extreme drowsiness, as well as a disassociative feeling from all other parts of the body, specifically the stomach and digestive system. It’s normally the color purple due to the sizzurp. The thing about lean is that it does not contain ANY form of alcohol, crushed pills, or other liquids in general. Thus making it a great thing for any age party
