To someone who is lurking in the desert, they perspire a lot because of the heat, therefore needing water constantly to keep themselves hydrated.

  1. To someone in the desert that desperately needs water, the ocean would be all that he needs. The main resource required to feel at ease and to survive. To the author, Laayla is just as essential to life.

  2. The desert can be seen metaphorically. When he is in a place of solitude and is dragging his feet (like someone would in a desert without water), Laayla can rescue him. She is his hope.

  3. The desert is extremely hot. He seems to be going through hell and the cool water of the ocean (Laayla) is heaven to him. She becomes the place he needs to be at.

  4. When dehydrated to a large extent in the desert, travelers can experience inferior mirages, where they could see water or lakes or anything they seek at the time in the distance. Obviously the real object is something else completely. Laayla is his mirage. He sees her everywhere he goes, just like one would when madly in love.

  5. The author is quite thirsty, as in desperate for affection and intimacy. Laayla will quench his thirst.

Simile

A ping pong ball goes back and forth just like him in an argument with his rivals, exchanging words/raps.

Boo hoo!

Anilyst’s skills are far superior over those of many other rappers, even professionals who call themselves good. He’ll display his dope skills in songs making those rappers look bad, causing embarrassment.

  1. Well known myth about how wolves look at the moon in the sky and howl at it. Science has found no proof of any connection but was always noted in mythological tales/Native American art and other cultural popular beliefs.

  2. The author is looking up as he is praying to God. Yet his prayers are not being answered. This could be revealing the impatience in him to ask for something and instantly want it. This could also mean that he has waited for a while but he is becoming pessimistic with time as he notices God hasn’t helped him out still. “Of course” indicates that he expected to be ignored. Often people going through misery and difficulties find it hard to hold closer to their faith, which ironically, people believe is being tested through such hardship!

  3. When you’re angry, you look to the sky to complain almost as if you’re engaging in a conversation with God. He is complaining and showing his dissatisfaction. God is not encouraging such dialogue.

Despite her instability and/or hardship, he still relies on her to be there for him at every point. While she is his muse, he wishes to be her muse as well, by providing so much love to encourage her to stay devoted to him.

Even when things aren’t going haywire, Adil is still in a troubling mood because he is too concerned with problems of this world. He sees the world falling apart. While at first glance, some people may confuse him with a misanthropist, he is actually a realist.

If going from previous lines, he hasn’t been able to use drugs to medicate and calm himself. He is too tense. Yet, as he is acknowledging the disorder, he could be finding his peace.

Carl Jung:

In all chaos there is a cosmos, in all disorder a secret order.

Anarchy! No rules. No guidelines. No laws. No restrictions. You’re free to act any way you want; technically the only rule to having great intimate fun.

At first glance, the words may lead the reader to think of a rape scene, with forced kisses on the victim, inducing the cries and tears… that is the imagery given.

  1. When you cry, your tears flow down your cheeks all the way to your lips. Tears belonging to your eyes are stolen from another facial feature, your lips, reminiscing of rape where one’s freedom is stolen by another person. Tears aren’t free to roam about because lips are there to catch them.

  2. You can taste the tears when they teach your lips and go inside your mouth. Therefore, one begins to get used to the taste of tears, wanting them more and more. This is metaphorically for someone who loves to play victim and loves to cry wolf.

  3. You speak from your mouth, using your lips. You use words that induce tears (critiquing), talking about being your own worst enemy.

These words don’t have a chance of truly getting out there, despite ironically being on Poetry genius. That is until I’m gone from this world. Like someone opening a diary once the person has passed away.

The imagery is of words drawn out in sand, being washed away by water. My words are being washed away by blood (from cut veins) while I’m dissolving back in dirt like the dead.

No matter how right I am, it won’t matter to people. I will always have to arm myself with reasons to defend myself, to engage in a debate, to “fight it out” until I can convince them of the same. It’s not fair, but it’s life.

Also play on the words, “fight for your right,” where most of the time, it’s your divine/natural right that you’re fighting to keep. Again, not fair, but it’s what people struggle with.
