One of the more well-known songs off Piñata, “Deeper” tells the story of a dope dealer whose love leaves him for a safer option. Freddie also notes that this person is why he shows no love anymore; this woman took away the soft, caring side of him.

A throwback jersey is a piece of sports clothing designed after uniforms that were used in the past. They usually have a retro/vintage look to them, hence “futuristic throwback” being used as an oxymoron in this line.

Two Meanings:

The kids of New York City, specifically minorities, are tired of living in constant fear within the confines of their own city. Laws such as the controversial stop and frisk act encourage racial profiling in NYC, leading to misconduct by police officers who often abuse the power of this law.

Oftentimes it feels as if police are ignoring the actual crimes that are occurring such as homicides (i.e tired of dying), and focusing more on handing out petty drug tickets. The “shooken'” that kids are experiencing could refer to the literal pat-downs and frisks done by NYPD officers.

Shuck (pronounced like “shook”) was a term that used to refer to the struggle African-Americans would have to go through in the early 1900s, not long after slavery was abolished. They would have to try and deceive their employers since there was still lots of racism in the early 20th century and they needed real jobs.

The kids walking around NY who get randomly searched are almost always minorities, which has caused the NYPD to come under fire for racial profiling, much similar to the kind of racism that one would have to avoid by “shucking and jiving” 100 years ago, obviously so, as police officers are literally picking out minorities because they “look suspicious” to see if they’re up to no good.

In this case the lyric could also be read as “shuckin'”.
