She’s TALKING about her political activism and She’ll not stop talking about it until they get tired.

MIA’s outspoken personality has gotten her into trouble with the media and certain other crowds several times, but acting to provoke such attention to important topics is the goal.

  • Frank is so invested in this person that he would do anything for them, even where no one can see, just to show that it doesn’t matter if anyone sees his efforts, he just wants to do the best he can for this person.

  • He is desperate and will do anything to please his lover in the dark. He knows he can’t be with this person all the time (the light) but he can be with them in the dark where no one knows.

  • Perhaps a loose metaphor for being in the closet. He’s in love with a closeted man, so anything he does for him has to be out of the public eye.

A common theme in Noname’s and others' works which include an escape from violence and vice, Noname wishes she could go back to more innocent times. On her song “Paradise,” Noname annotated:

Don’t we all miss childhood? I know I do.

The way Noname sings this line is reminiscent of Ahmad’s 1994 hit “Back In The Day,” itself a hit from Noname’s childhood.

Wolf shares a name with the Minnesota Timberwolves of the NBA. This line isn’t to say that any of the album covers looks literally like the Wolves' mascot, but there could be some inspiration drawn from the team’s logos and colors.

Being from the West isn’t much of an excuse to know nothing about India; Christianity has ties to it from Jesus spending time there in his young adulthood, and the face of Western industry, the late Steve Jobs, journeying through India in his own young adulthood as well.

Even with all the Indian influence on the Western world, Americans are largely ignorant to anything about the culture, probably being clueless about something as regular as a bindi.

“Sauce” is slang for finesse or hustle—Q had to grind to get what he needed.

In addition, this alludes to the famous Gucci Mane “lost in the sauce” video:

This is a reference to one of the many famous DJ Khaled-isms, where he says that one of the keys to success is to “take the door off and put the hinges in the fuckboy’s hands.” Khaled himself shows up in the song’s music video for this line and more.

The meaning behind this is that you can not only knock the doors that are in your way down, but go as far as to present what’s holding the proverbial doors up to those who are trying to hold you back, so as to show them they can’t stop you.

This relates to Chance in that the music industry doesn’t want him to succeed as an independent artist, or that some people are against him making positive music for the people. Indeed, “they” don’t want him to win. Stay away from they.

Kanye grew up on the south side of Chicago and has been repping his city throughout his career.

Just like in the opening lines of “Homecoming,” it appears Kanye is paying homage Chicago legend Common, albeit with a tongue-in-cheek reference to his Drake diss, a remix of “Stay Schemin,” which in turn referenced “The Motto.”

My motto is: Chicago, bitch

The delivery of this line is also similar to 2015’s “All Day.”
