Unlike Chvrches, I was well aware of Haim and all the hype surrounding the band this year. In many ways, Days Are Gone did live up to the hype, with “Falling” being my favorite track off the album.

Step into the fire feeling higher than the truth, I can feel the heat but I’m not burning

This song was stuck in my head after just one listen and has been on repeat ever since.

The Bones of What You Believe wasn’t on my radar when the year started but after hearing D-WHY sample “The Mother We Share” I was intrigued. The album really took me by surprise and ended up being one of my favorites of the year.

I can sell you lies, you can’t get enough

“Lies” was easily my favorite track off the album, starting with the stylized and thematically dystopian video.

The movie starts with Maboo looking like Scarface in his prime in order to have the best annotations for My Name Is My Name the new album by Pusha T (even though we all know that TyrantX has the Pusha T annotations on lock). Those haters over at the NMPA bust in, seeing all the cash Rap Genius was taking in, and try to shut it down. Maboo of course fears that 5-0 is there to arrest him for the coke or his infamous Zuckerberg comments, but he finds out they want to shut down the site as he is put in handcuffs. Refusing to go out quietly, Maboo goes off Kanye West style!

Will Rap Genius get shut down? Will Maboo get free from jail? Will Zuck ever really forgive Maboo?

D-WHY often explains that he doesn’t make rap or hip-hop music, he simply makes music. That is to say, you can’t put a genre on songs like “One Day” or “2000 Miles”.

This has become a mantra for D-WHY. He opens and closes with this in his cypher for Rock The Bells in fall 2013

D-WHY alludes to two of his previous songs “Macchiato Music” and “Devil Horns To All”.

This that macchiato music
Everybody rocking to it
Always staying on some new shit
And I think I’m bout to lose it

D-WHY often shouts out to his loyal fans, relaying how they’re all with him on this EP.
