Smith and Wessen is a company that manufactures weapons, primarily firearms. Much has been made of the use of guns as symbolic representations of penises; just wordsearch “gun”. Cole wants this girl to recognize the “piece” he’s “carrying” before they get down to business.

J. Cole also incorporates a very clever reference to the group Smif N Wessun in this line, as they had a track titled “Wreckognize” released in 1995 off their album “Dah Shinin'”.

In a clever twist, J. Cole dedicates this song to finding out why commercial rap is popular. Every allusion is done tongue-in-cheek, pointing out that nowadays, rappers aren’t talking about important things. For instance:

In a mainstream rap song, what would be “on his mind” is pussy. For J. Cole, when he brings up the main points of rap (pussy, money, women, fame), he immediately retorts himself (“That’s disgusting”). The real thing on his mind is how songs with metaphors so disgusting, absurd, and illogical could possibly become hits. Even Cole is guilty of this sometimes!

Hot Sauce Committee, Part 2 was scheduled for release in 2009, but MCA’s battle with throat cancer brought delays. As the third single, “Make Some Noise” dropped on 4.11.2011. Accompanied by a kickass trailer, the album came out on 5.3.2011. Reaching #1 on the Nielsen BDS alternative rock indicator chart, "Make Some Noise” was the band’s highest-charting single since 2004’s “Ch-Check It Out”. The song appears on the soundtrack to the videogame, Madden NFL 12. “Make Some Noise“ was never performed live in concert.

A sick double entendre here:

1. The logical route of going to college, graduating with some random bachelor’s degree and finding a boring ass job sucks compared to a life lived through a microphone

2. Logic and Reason are two computer programs for music production; literally, if Xaphoon is given enough time with this relatively inexpensive software, Chiddy can go hard on it
